“Guadalupe Maravilla (b. 1976, San Salvador, El Salvador; lives and works in New York) grounds his sculpture, painting, performance, and large-scale installation in activism and healing, informed by his personal story of migration, illness, and recovery. For Mariposa Relámpago, the artist transformed a school bus with handmade and selected objects that retrace his journey from El Salvador to the United States as an unaccompanied youth. Also incorporated are several gongs that when activated by Maravilla and fellow sound healers, energize the piece as a vibrational sound healing instrument.
