Native Plant Walk on Lady Bird Lake

11 August @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am

This will be a 2.0 mile total out and back hike on level terrain. There will be many stops to look at and discuss plants. Families are welcome, and it is dog-friendly, just please keep them leashed and clean up after them. On this hike, you’ll learn about common plants of central Texas, their ecological role, and some ways humans have used them for medicine or nutrition. We will walk over to the mouth of Barton Creek, cross it and walk for a bit and then cross back over.

It’s being led by me, Andrew Harrod, vice president on the board of Save Barton Creek Association. I am a wildlife major and fell hard for native plants over the pandemic. I have led many hikes on native plants and helped with local Texas Master Naturalist chapter’s classes on plants. I am a Capital Area Master Naturalist myself, if you are curious about the program, I will speak briefly on it and can answer any questions you might have.

We will meet under MoPac at the south end of the Roberta Crenshaw Pedestrian Bridge.
