South Austin students have a unique opportunity to receive the sort of exceptional education that is typically reserved for affluent public school districts and private schools — all for FREE! Wayside Schools, a five school charter network in Southeast Austin, is now enrolling for the 2018-2019 school year.
Wayside Schools includes three elementary (PK3-5) schools: Altamira Academy, Eden Park Academy, and REAL Learning Academy. Their network also includes a combined middle and high school (6-12), Wayside: Sci-Tech Preparatory. From Pre-K through 12th grade, all of the campuses are International Baccalaureate schools. That means that students are educated with a rigorous teaching method that has resulted in 100 percent of Wayside’s graduating seniors being accepted into college.
Wayside’s mission is that ALL children, regardless of race, family income, or zip code, deserve access to a great education — 62 percent of Wayside students are economically disadvantaged. Enrollment at the academies is dependent upon a lottery system, a way to ensure that all applicants are given equal opportunity for enrollment. All applications for the upcoming school year must be received by March 23, 2018, and results will be made available on their website on April 9.
Interested parents and caregivers can learn more about the application process, the enrollment lottery, and what comes after the lottery (whether selected or not) on Wayside’s enrollment page.
