1. Mueller Lake Park
Have you visited Mueller on a Sunday morning? Not only is this venue a great family attraction for the Farmers’ Market, it’s the perfect family spot for an afternoon of fun. The man-made lake is ideal for beginning cyclists to try out their skills. The track is perfectly flat and paved from the market to the playground. If your child isn’t interested in riding that day, no worries! Head over to the fantastic playscape or visit the Thinkery, Austin’s children’s museum. 4550 Mueller Blvd, Austin.
2. Butler Park
Not only does this venue offer a stunning view of downtown Austin, it is prime real estate for beginner bike riders. Butler offers paved spaced perfection for riding, mainly flat riding spaces, but also some minimal hills for the more advanced learner. 3. Boardwalk Trail at Lady Bird Lake
The Boardwalk is a great way to see the beautiful Austin skyline as well as learn fun nature facts on the way. This is a great attraction for the whole family!
4. Ramsey Park
Ramsey Park is located in Rosedale and has undergone a complete renovation. A new riding track is now part of the park and there are plenty of areas to ride. It also includes a shaded basketball area, tennis courts, several playscapes and a sand box. 4301 Rosedale Ave, Austin.
5. Dick Nichols Park
Dick Nichols Park Trail is a 2-mile loop trail with great scenery and a waterfall. This trail is ideal for those who want to ride road bike because the trail is paved. There are playgrounds here as well. 8011 Beckett Rd, Austin.
6. Onion Creek Trail
Located in McKinney Falls State Park, the Onion Creek trail is a 2.8-mile loop. There are plenty of picnic tables available for relaxing in the shade of the Live Oak and Bald Cypress trees. This trail is versatile and accessible to walkers, joggers, and bicyclists. The trail is leveled and paved out, making it perfect for beginners. 7001 Onion Creek Dr, Austin.
7. Sk8te Park
This is a new addition to the Austin cycling circuit. It offers a great, secluded area for new riders to try out their skills. Make sure to schedule your training session during off-peak times. 1213 Shoal Creek Boulevard, Austin.
8. Tanglewood Park
This one’s for the kids. Tanglewood Park is a neighborhood gem and home to many families in northwest Austin. The paved trail follows up a small hill to the waypoint pavilion that serves as a resting spot, as well as a place for picnics. 9. Northwest Park
This is one of the most favored parks around central Austin. The amenities include a pool, several playscapes, a pond and two grand parking lots ideal for safe bike riding. 7000 Ardath St, Austin.
10. Zilker Elementary
Zilker offers many options ranging from crushed granite conditions to a running track to a fully covered basketball court. 1900 Bluebonnet Lane, Austin.
11. Veloway Park
Veloway is a spacious 3.1-mile, 23-foot wide paved trail that winds through scenic Slaughter Creek Metropolitan Park. Children will feel safe being away from scary and populated street traffic. It is is very much secluded and a great option to learn how to ride a bike… with patience in tow! With no foot traffic allowed, beginners don’t have to worry about weaving through crowds. 12. Govalle Park – Southern Walnut Creek Trail
Located on the east side of town, Govalle park offers a beautiful bike path as part of the Southern Walnut Creek Trail. Govalle Park, 5200 Bolm Road, Austin.
