Another wonderful Austin weekend is here, and there are so many great things to do in and around town. Here are the top 10 FREE Austin events happening this weekend.

  1. Video Game Free Play: PS4 Day

    Join for free play gaming using one of the library’s new video games and consoles! Make some new friends and enjoy collaborative and competitive gaming at your library.
  2. Toy Story 4 Free Outdoor Screening with Spirit 105.9
    Friday, October 11 | from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. | Community Cinema and Ampitheater, 9301 Hog Eye Road

    Mobile Loaves & Fishes invites you to a free movie night at our Community First! Village. Grab chairs and a blanket, bring family and friends, and enjoy this special screening. Explore Community First! Village, pick your spot, and enjoy your favorite movie snacks from the Community Grille. Burgers, french fries, snacks, and drinks will be available for purchase (cards only, cash no longer accepted). The event is free, however a $5 donation would be highly appreciated.
  3. Movies at Lake Park
    Friday, October 11 | from 7 to 9:30 p.m. | Mueller

    Join in October for two free, family-friendly events taking place at Mueller’s outdoor amphitheater. The October 11 movie is Beauty and the Beast (animated version).
  4. Plant Bingo Hike (Lockhart)
    Saturday, October 12 | from 10 to 11 a.m. | Lockhart State Park, 2012 State Park Road, Lockhart

    Join a Master Naturalist for a plant bingo game on the trails! Learn about our local plants during this fun hiking game! All ages welcome! Prepare: Wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes. Bring water and apply sunscreen or bug repellent, as needed. No registration required. Meet: Meet your guide at the Creekview Trailhead. If driving from park headquarters, take your first left-hand turn, pass the campgrounds, and park along the paved loop. Fees: This program is free with entry to the park. Regular park entrance fees are $3/adult, free for children 12 & under.
  5. Family Saturday: Make Like a Tree and Weave
    Saturday, October 12 | from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. | Contemporary Austin at Laguna Gloria, 3809 West 35th Street

    Embark on a Tree ID walk and learn about local trees with the experts at TreeFolks during this nature-ific event. Weave with natural materials on our contemporary loom, then make a mini weaving to take home.  https://www.treefolks.org/ Creative fun for all ages. Workshop free with reservation
  6. craftHER Market Fall 19
    Saturday and Sunday, October 12 and 13 | from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. | Fair Market, 1100 East Fifth Street

    This fall on October 12 and 13, #bossbabesATX’s craftHER Market returns bigger and better than ever. Both days of the Fall ’19 market will include installations by featured craftHER Market resident artist, Edith Valle, a curated food court, kid-friendly activities, a nonprofit raffle, a community weaving loom and more.   7. Making Camping S’More Fun (Lockhart)

    Join for a fun afternoon of campfire instruction and s’mores! Campfires often go hand and hand with camping, so come see how to build one safely with a live demonstration! All ages welcome. Prepare: Dress for the weather. Bring water and your sweet tooth. No registration required. Meet: Meet in the day use area. If driving from park HQ, pass the pool and take your first right-hand turn into the day use area parking lot. Fees: This program is free with entry to the park. Regular park entrance fees are $3/adult, free for children 12 & under.
  8. Hill Country Galleria Concert Series
    Saturday, October 12
    | from 7 to 9 p.m. | Hill Country Galleria, 12700 Hill Country Boulevard
    Hill Country Galleria, premier lifestyle center located west of downtown Austin in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, is excited to announce the return of its Saturday Night Concert Series. Kicking off on September 14 with The Peterson Brothers, this music series will be hosted by Austin City Limits Radio and features local favorites such as Charlie Mars, Bob Schneider, and Fastball, and Guy Forsyth and Jeska Bailey Band. The concerts take place in the Central Plaza and guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chairs to lounge on the grassy lawn during the show. Admission is free and dogs are welcome. 
  9. Steiner Ranch Fall Festival

    Join for some community fun fall activities along with raffles, prizes and giveaways! Activities include: Pumpkin painting/decorating, Obstacle course, Games, “Spooky” dance floor, Treat stops, and more!!! Will also have local vendors and business owners showcasing some of their treasures!
  10. Orpheus Academy of Music Piano, Voice and Flute Faculty Concert
    Sunday, October 13 | from 3 to 4 p.m. | First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin, 4700 Grover Avenue

    Come join the outstanding members of the Orpheus Academy of Music Piano, Voice, and Flute faculty for a recital of songs that tell a story from your favorite literature, movies, and musicals.  Back by popular demand, we’ll have a storyteller to act out each story in between musical numbers. Perfect for families with children of all ages. Admission is free and open to the public, but donations will be accepted for the Javier Niño Memorial Scholarship Fund. Refreshments will be provided at the end of the recital.
