  1. Movies in Your Park at Mueller: Frozen – Friday, October 17 at 6:30 p.m. Bring the kids and enjoy a family-friendly movie. Make yourself comfortable by bringing snacks and blankets, but please no chairs or other equipment that could block the view of other attendees. Feel free to stop by one of the Mueller food eateries to purchase a quick bite to eat. Activities will start at 6:30 p.m. and movie will begin at dusk. Rated PG.   2. Live Music at Central Market North – Friday, October 17, Saturday, October 18 and Sunday, October 19, from 6:30-9 p.m. Enjoy live music on the patio and let the kids play on the playground! Friday: Soul and Americana by Cracker Box Gospel Band. Saturday: Russian-Texan Gypsy music with Flying Balalaika Brothers. Sunday: Vocal Jazz with Karen Tennison. FREE!   3. Festival de las Artes Latinoamericanas – Friday, October 17 from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday, October 18, from 12-9 p.m. Featuring a multicultural display of cinematography, theater, literature, music, folklore, graphic arts, and food. See the schedule here. FREE! ESB-MACC, 600 River St, Austin.
  4. Shakespeare on the Farm: The Tempest – Friday, October 17 and Saturday, October 18 at 7:30 p.m. Present Company presents Shakespeare’s classic tale of love, magic, and one helluva hurricane. Promoting the philosophy of accessible and sustainable art, Shakespeare on the Farm is a FREE event, but a suggested donation of $10-$20 helps support the event and the artists that create it. Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or short chair and a picnic, although snacks and donation-based cocktails will be available. Suitable for all ages. Texas Teen Book Festival – Saturday, October 18, from 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend for FREE! 29 authors will talk about their books on a series of panels, meet fans and sign books. There’s a blackout writing workshop, a poetry writing workshop, and a Texas Throwdown Game Show, pitting authors against authors! St. Edward’s University, 3001 S Congress Ave, Austin.
  6. Family Fun Day at Urban Roots Farm – Saturday, October 18, from 9:30 a.m. – noon. Join the Urban Roots Farm Outreach Interns for a FREE Family Fun Day. Take a self-guided tour of the East Austin farm and enjoy educational and interactive stations throughout! If you’d like to stop by, please RSVP. Be sure to wear closed-toe shoes and bring a water bottle! Urban Roots Farm, 7651 Delwau Ln, Austin.
  7. Dogtoberfest – Saturday, October 18, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Bring your pups to enjoy demonstrations, contests, dog-focused vendor booths, a silent auction, costume contest and more. Dogtoberfest is an Austin based, non-profit organization, created for the purpose of instilling awareness about dog rescue, and raising much needed funds for local dog rescue organizations. Admission is FREE; entry into the contests and some activities have a fee. The Domain, 11410 Century Oaks Terrace, Austin.
  8. Viva la Vida Festival – Saturday, October 18, from 12-9 p.m. The annual street festival is Austin’s largest and longest-running Day of the Dead event and features a Grand Parade/Procession, Latino artists and entertainment, an exhibition inside the museum (museum admission applies), and educational programs. Attendees will also enjoy traditional foods from local food trucks, hands-on art activities, artist demos, and traditional and contemporary Latino art. The 2014 event is co-sponsored by the City of Austin. Parade begins at noon, runs down 6th Street (between Comal and Chicon), and ends at 4th and Congress (about 45 – 60 minutes). The festival grounds will be located at the northwest corner of 4th St. and Congress in downtown Austin. FREE. 
  9. Movie at Arbor Trails: Karate Kid – Saturday, October 18 at 7 p.m. Bring the family to Arbor Trails for a screening of Karate Kid (1984) on a giant inflatable screen! Rated PG. The screen will be set up in the field across from Whole Foods Market.  Please feel free to bring blankets and chairs. Seating is starting at 7 p.m. and the movie starts at sunset. FREE.   10. HOPE Farmers Market 5th Birthday Party – Sunday, October 19, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.  Celebrate the HOPE’s 5th birthday with facepainting, a petting zoo, FREE cake, live music, and a tinkering table! Plaza Saltillo, 412 Comal Street (Corner of East 5th and Comal Street), Austin.

  • Hutto Olde Tyme Days (Hutto) – Friday, October 17, from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday, October 18, from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. Vendor booths, car show, horse demonstrations, live music and more. Admission is FREE, but the Kids’ Zone, Street Dance and Friday night Drive-in Movie have fees. Vendors offering face painting and pony rides set their own fees. 122 East Street, Hutto. 
  • Chisholm Trail Days (Georgetown) – Saturday, October 18, from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. This FREE family-friendly event features living history demonstrations, working blacksmiths, hands-on activities, pony and wagon rides, a children’s corral, authentic chuckwagons, and live western music. There will even be a cattle drive along the river beginning at noon! San Gabriel Park, 445 E Morrow Street, Georgetown.
  • Pfall Chili Pfest (Pflugerville) – Saturday, October 18, from 12-7 p.m. Head to the Kids’ Zone for bounce houses, face painters, clown, arts and craft activities, and new this year: a petting zoo! Enjoy live music, a Heat Wave Car Show (12-5 p.m.), and a FREE Pinewood Derby! Bring a new or used car from 3-5 p.m. to have it weighed and registered, then stick around for the races starting at 5:30 p.m. The entire event is FREE, unless you’d like to sample the contest chili from 33 different cooks. That cost is $5 for a bag with 20 small cups, 5 spoons, and tickets to vote for People’s Choice.   • Trunk or Treat for Families with Children or Teens with Special Needs (Round Rock) – Saturday, October 18, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. This family-centered event encourages active participation for children with various disabilities or limitations. Trick or Treat from car to car, trunk to trunk. Costumes encouraged. Bring your trick or treat bags. FREE. Seton Medical Center Williamson, 201 Seton Pkwy, Round Rock.
  • Pflugerville Community Church Fall Festival (Pflugerville) – Sunday, October 19, from 3-6 p.m. Enjoy FREE hot dogs, carnival games, prizes, bounce houses, a petting zoo, raffles, face painting, pumpkin painting and more! 1214 Pfennig Lane, Pflugerville.
