Another wonderful Austin weekend is here, and there are so many great things to do in and around town. Here are the top 10 FREE Austin events happening this weekend.

  1. Waterloo Greenway’s Creek Show
    Friday through Sunday, November 8 through 10 | from 6 to 10 p.m. | Downtown Austin, Between 9th and 12th Streets
    Austin’s signature fall event is back! Waterloo Greenway Conservancy’s 6th Annual Creek Show takes place November 7 through November 17 and runs from 6 to 10 p.m. nightly. On display between 9th and 12th streets, you don’t want to miss this free event featuring light-based art that attracted more than 50,000 visitors last year!This year’s installations include Aurora by 1909B, Downstream Upcycle by Design Workshop, The Ghost Boat by Nelsen Partners, Light House by Norma Sunny, m e a n d e r  by frankev, and String Theory by Boka Powell.   2. The Lion King (2019) Free Outdoor Screening with Spirit 105.9
    Friday, November 8 | from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. | Community Cinema and Ampitheater, 9301 Hog Eye Road

    Mobile Loaves & Fishes Spirit 105.9 invite you to a free movie night at Community First! Village. Grab chairs and a blanket, bring family and friends, and enjoy this special screening. Explore Community First! Village, pick your spot, and enjoy your favorite movie snacks from the Community Grille. Burgers, french fries, snacks, and drinks will be available for purchase (cards only, cash no longer accepted). The event is free, however a $5 donation would be highly appreciated.
  3. Camp Gladiator Game Finals
    Saturday, November 9 | from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. | Dell Diamond, 3400 East Palm Valley Boulevard, Round Rock
    Camp Gladiator and Academy Sports Outdoors will host CG Games Finals and welcome the top 1,400 Athletes from across the nation to test their agility, strength, speed and endurance and compete for a grand prize of $45,000 in cash and grand prizes. CG Games Finals follows CG Games Prelims and is the final phase of the CG Games. The top 25 teams and individual athletes who qualified and advanced from CG Games Prelims are exclusively invited to face the best-of-the-best at CG Games Finals. The events is family-friendly, free to attend, and open to the public. Attendees can enjoy live music food and check out items from a variety of vendors throughout the day. Come cheer on the nation’s top athletes as they compete and test their strength in one of the biggest fitness events of the year!
  4. Festival of Learning 2019
    Saturday, November 9 | from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Browning Hangar, 4550 Mueller Boulevard
    Join for a Saturday of free family fun and learning! Alt Ed Austin is proud to showcase the abundance and diversity of unconventional learning opportunities we are so fortunate to have in the Austin area. Bring your teens & tots to visit information & activity booths hosted by innovative schools and other educational programs serving learners of all ages. Grab a bite to eat while you’re here—the Festival of Learning takes place under the soaring roof of the historic Browning Hangar, right across from the popular Mueller Trailer Eats food park.
  5. Laura’s Library Artisan Market
    Saturday, November 9 | from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. | Laura Bush Library, three miles west of Hwy 360 on Bee Caves Road
    The Laura’s Library Artisans’ Market is craft show with approximately 40 Austin area artists, a large silent auction and 2 food trucks.  This is a juried show ensuring a large variety of handmade, high quality items.  All proceeds benefit student scholarships, as well as various library programs always offered free to the public.  Indoor and outdoor booths.  Rain or shine.  Free admission and parking.
  6. Veteran’s Ceremony (Elgin)
    Saturday, November 9 | from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. | Veteran’s Memorial Park, 109 Depot Street, Elgin
    Honor our veterans and show your patriotic pride at the veterans ceremony. Before and after the ceremony, visit booths, military vehicle displays, rock wall and inflatable camo truck. Food concessions will be provided by Alzer’s BBQ- veterans receive 20% off their order.
  7. Family Saturday Opposites Attract
    Saturday, November 9 | from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. | Contemporary Austin at Laguna Gloria, 3809 West 35th Street
    See the world through the eyes of artworks by artist Carol Bove on the grounds of Laguna Gloria. Make a painting that imagines what a geometric sculpture might see when it looks at a curvy one.   8. Community Frame Drum Circle
    Saturday, November 9 | from 1 to 3 p.m. | Elisabet Ney Museum, 304 East 44th Street

    An interactive community drum circle for the whole family to enjoy. FREE and open to the public. All ages and levels of experience welcome. Walk-ins/ drop-ins welcome. Frame drums are one of the world’s oldest music instruments. They are found in almost every music culture throughout history and around the world. And while the design of a drumhead stretched over a circular hoop is incredibly simple, frame drums can be played a number of different ways and produce a wide spectrum of different sounds. Join us for an all-ages, family-friendly interactive community drum circle where you can learn to play one of these fun, versatile hand drums. Percussionist and ethnomusicologist Myranda Harris will teach you the basic drum strokes and lead you through a series of rhythmic patterns from different music cultures around the world. No prior music experience is necessary, and instruments will be provided.
  9. Dope Creatives Fall Market

    It’s the LAST Dope Creatives Market of the year so don’t sleep on us! Featuring 20+ vendors, dope DJs, food, and drinks all day long! The Dope Creatives Market is a curated market of local & handmade vendors. The event is free to the public and held at Native Hostels. Soundtrack by Sound Selectors ATX DJs – Willtothe, Stefon Osae & Gniice. This is an indoor event and the entire family is welcome!
  10. November Family Day

    Monthly Family Days are designed for families and friends to explore and create. On the second Sunday of each month, we feature a line-up of activities for families to enjoy. Join for Family Day at the UMLAUF on Sunday, November 10 from 12 to 4 p.m.! Get the whole family together and enjoy a full day of fun activities. This event is free and open to the public!
