The Weekend Top 10 is brought to you by NXNA Garden Tour, happening on Saturday, May 2.

  1. Pre-Cinco de Mayo Celebration – Friday, May 1 from 5:30-8 p.m. Families will enjoy games, food, door prizes, and Tejano music. Stay after the celebration to enjoy a Movie Under the Stars. Beginning at dusk, Metz will show Rise of the Guardians (rated PG) on the front lawn, so bring your blankets and chairs. One FREE popcorn and drink per person. This is a dog friendly event–bring your pups to the celebration for games and doggie treats. Metz Rec Center, 2407 Canterbury St, Austin.
  2. Movie in the Park: Up –  Friday, May 1 at 7:45 p.m. Enjoy a movie in the park: Up. Rated PG. Please bring a blanket or chair to sit on.  Dittmar Rec Center will provide the popcorn! FREE! Dittmar Rec Center, 1009 W Dittmar Rd, Austin.

Taming of the Shrew -Friday, May 1, Saturday, May 2, and Sunday, May 3 at 8 p.m. From the battle of the sexes to the marriage of true minds, Austin Shakespeare transforms The Taming of the Shrew to Austin of the 1890s, where city folk and cowboys collide. Bring a picnic and a blanket and enjoy Shakespeare under the beautiful evening sky. Featuring Gwendolyn Kelso as Kate and Marc Pouhé as Petruchio. Post show audience/actor discussions after each performance. FREE! Zilker Hillside Theater, 2201 Barton Springs Rd, Austin.
  4. Home Depot Kids Workshop – Saturday, May 2 from 9 a.m. – noon. Kids can learn how to build a picket fence photo frame, and keep their project for FREE! RSVP to attend at a store near you.
  5. Pecan Street Festival – Saturday, May 2 from  11 a.m. – 10 p.m. and Sunday, May 3 from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. The Pecan Street Festival is one of the largest, and longest-running, arts/crafts and music festivals in the nation. Admission is FREE. Downtown Austin on 6th St. between Brazos St. and IH-35.
  6. Violet Crown Festival – Saturday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This fun festival – staged by Violet Crown Community Works — will feature local arts and crafts vendors, family fun, children’s activities, live music, and refreshments. The schedule of entertainment will include music from Lunch with Danny, Jungle Jill and the Jaybirds, Roger Beck and the Knights of Texas Swing, belly dancing from Jamie Shelton, Deanne Rene, Light Upstairs and Feet First. Children will be delighted by entertainment from Sparkle Stories and the opportunity to meet and learn from a living tree. Other offerings include spin art, face painting, life-sized Jenga and chess, hula hoops, legos, different craft stations, seed bombs, bean bag toss, ladder golf and a cake walk.   7. CelebrASIA Austin: An Asian Pacific American Food & Heritage Festival – Saturday, May 2 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage with this year’s food theme: coconut! Featuring the AARC’s second annual Battle of the Asian Food Trucks, plus cultural performances, kids’ activities, games, educational food booths, artisan marketplace, community outreach fair, heritage showcases and more!   8. Family Day at the Umlauf – Sunday, May 3 from 12-4 p.m. Activities include children’s yoga, story time, clay creations and music by the Armstrong Community Music School. All-day activities include papel picado, ultimate hopscotch and sculpture safaris. Refreshments will be provided by Juice Austin. Umlauf Sculpture Garden, 605 Robert E Lee Rd, Austin.
  9. Free First Sunday: Roller Derby – Sunday, May 3 from 12-3 p.m. Enjoy FREE entry to the Bullock Museum and its exhibits. Special programming will coincide with Texas Roller Derby special exhibit. Discover the connection between Austin and modern roller derby! Families with kids ages five and up can participate in hands-on activities, drop in at an art-making station, and meet some of the Texas Rollergirls themselves.   10. Community Art Sundays – Sunday, May 3 from 1-4 p.m. Celebrate creativity and innovation with active workshops and art experiences for the whole family. Bring your imagination to life with a recycled materials building workshop. Learn more about building community from Habitat for Humanity. Stand up for justice in a super hero photo booth. Watch movies made by Creative Action students in a screening room. Dance and sing with Austin family favorite, Mr. Will Dupuy! Enjoy treats from Chameleon Cold Brew and Nada Moo Ice Cream.   1. Concert in the Park (Cedar Park) – Friday, May 1 at 7 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and settle in to hear music by Suede. Food concessions will be available, but you are welcome to bring a picnic and your own ice chest. FREE! Elizabeth Milburn Park, 1901 Sun Chase Blvd, Cedar Park.
  2. Movies in the Park: Annie (Leander) – Friday, May 1 at 7:30 p.m. Often described as a combination of state-of-the-art technology and the nostalgia of the 1950s drive-in, the Movies in the Park series provides families the opportunity to spend time together under the stars while enjoying first run movies. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and a picnic dinner.   3. Muddy Miler (Round Rock) – Saturday, May 2 from 8-10:30 a.m. Register your family now for the Muddy Miler Family Adventure taking place at Old Settlers Park. The Muddy Miler is a themed 1 mile adventure run offering exciting mud obstacles the whole family will enjoy.   4. SpringFest (Bee Cave) – Saturday, May 2 from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. Hill Country Galleria is hosting the 8th Annual SpringFest: “The biggest time in the smallest town.” Enjoy a Boat Expo, Craft BrewHaus, KidZone, and live music. Stop by Learning Express Toys to meet Elmo (12-1 p.m.) and Elsa (2:30-4 p.m.). Admission and parking are FREE. Hill Country Galleria, 12700 Hill Country Blvd, Bee Cave.
  5. Cinco de Mayo (Pflugerville) – Sunday, May 3 from 4-7 p.m. Enjoy carnival games, a petting zoo, a bounce house, face painting and more at this FREE community celebration. Pflugerville Community Church, 1214 Pfennig Lane, Pflugerville.
