Another wonderful Austin weekend is here and there are so many great things to do in and around town! Here are the top 10 FREE Austin events happening this weekend.

  1. Cowboy Breakfast
    Friday, March 6 | From 6 to 8 a.m.| Long Center, 701 West Riverside Drive
    The Cowboy Breakfast is a FREE super-sized Texas breakfast that kicks off Rodeo Austin’s action-packed month of March. Come celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Cowboy Breakfast and enjoy western-themed entertainment, live music provided by Lohman’s Crossing, world-renowned trick roper, a longhorn and two-stepping lessons, and delicious food!
  2. Tinkergarden Trial Class
    Friday, March 6 | From 10 to 11:30 a.m.| Springwoods Park, 9117 Anderson Mill Road

    In this free trial, they will have an expert-designed play scenario, allowing children of various ages and needs to explore, problem-solve, communicate, collaborate, and create together. Parents and caregivers learn, too, as they’ll share insight into your child’s development.
  3. Frozen II – Free Outdoor Screening (Night 1)
    Friday, March 6| From 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.| Community Cinema & Amphitheater, 9301 Hog Eye Road

    Mobile Loaves & Fishes & Hyde Park School invite you to a free movie night at Community First! Village. Grab chairs and a blanket, bring family and friends, and enjoy this special screening. Pick your spot, and enjoy your favorite movie snacks from the Community Grill. Burgers, french fries, snacks, and drinks will be available for purchase (cards only, cash not accepted). The event is FREE, however a $5 donation would be highly appreciated. Donations can be made electronically when RSVP-ing to this event or via donation bucket at the venue.
  4. Colony Park: It’s My Park Day
    Saturday, March 7 | From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.| Turner-Roberts Recreation Center, 7201 Colony Loop Drive

    Colony Park is celebrating “It’s My Park Day” and the Grand Opening of the Colony Park District Park! A community service activity to beautify the park will kick off from 8 to 10 a.m. Volunteers will mulch trees, clean the walking trail and get the park ready for the Spring. Families who are unable to join the park clean-up can still participate in the grand opening festivities from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. This celebration will feature fun, kid-friendly outdoor activities, music, food, and much more. 
  5. IDEA Bluff Springs Open House and Free Haircuts
    Saturday, March 7 | From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.| IDEA Bluff Springs, 1700 East Slaughter Lane

    Families are welcome to learn more about IDEA Public Schools and tour our Bluff Springs Campus. FREE Haircuts will be offered to students in our Austin community ages 4-15 from the talented barbers at Barber Palace in Kyle, Texas.
  6. Sew Much Fun
    Saturday, March 7 | From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.| Austin Public Library – Ruiz Branch, 1600 Grove Boulevard

    Come make your own stuffed felt friend. We have all the materials you need to create dinosaurs, unicorns, stars, and more. Each session, we’ll work on a new project. This week it’s CATS! All ages welcome!
  7. Dog Extravaganza At Metz Recreation Center
    Saturday, March 7 | From 12 to 2 p.m.| Metz Recreation Center, 2407 Canterbury Street

    This FREE event is dedicated to our furry family members. Join the Metz staff for a day in the park filled with fun games and activities designed especially for your dog! Door prizes, FREE snacks & samples, doggie games, vendors and contests. Winners will receive prize baskets. Don’t miss out on the fun!
  8. Family Day
    Sunday, March 8 | From 12 to 4 p.m.| UMLAUF, 605 Azie Morton Road
    Join for Family Day at the UMLAUF on Sunday, March 8 from 12 to 4 p.m.! Bring your whole family and enjoy a full day of fun activities. This event is free and open to the public!
  9. Music From Around The World: Orpheus Academy Of Music Facility Recital
    Sunday, March 8 | From 3 to 4 p.m.| First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin, 4700 Grover Avenue
    Join them as the award-winning faculty of Orpheus Academy of Music perform exciting musical selections that represent different countries from across the globe! This event is FREE and open to the public.  Families with children of all ages are encouraged to attend. A reception will follow the event.
  10. Wobblebots: STEM Projects Women’s History Month
    Sunday, March 8 | From 3 to 5 p.m.| Little Walnut Creek Branch Library, 835 West Rundberg Lane

    Learn about women in STEM and create a WobbleBot using circuits, a motor, and recycled materials. All supplies provided. FREE and open to the public.
