Another fantastic weekend is here, and there are so many great things to do in and around Austin. Here are the top 10 FREE events happening this weekend.

  1. Heartsong Music Free Demo Days
    Friday, June 8 through Sunday, June 10 | at 12 p.m. | Heartsong Music, 2700 W. Anderson Ln., #320
    Heartsong Music is hosting free demonstration classes for ages birth – 2nd grade and the adults who love them. The classes will be held at their Anderson Lane studio as well as at different venues around town. Times vary.
  2. Visit with a Park Ranger
    Friday, June 8 | at 2 p.m. | Austin Public Library – Yarborough Branch, 2200 Hancock Dr.
    Join for a special visit from a City of Austin Park Ranger! The Ranger will share a story and information about animals that live in Texas. There will be a “touch table” where children can get up close and personal with furs and skulls.
  3. Alice in Wonderland Free Outdoor Screening
    Friday, June 8 | from 8 to 11 p.m. | The Community Cinema at Community First! Village, 9301 Hog Eye Rd.
    Mobile Loaves & Fishes invites you to a FREE movie night at Community First! Village. Grab chairs and a blanket, bring family and friends, and enjoy this special screening of Alice in Wonderland. Get there early to explore Community First! Village, pick your spot, and enjoy your favorite movie snacks. Hot dogs, milkshakes, popcorn, candy and drinks will be available for purchase (cash preferred). The event is free, however a $5 donation would be highly appreciated.
  4. Blair Woods Family Nature Day
    Saturday, June 9 | from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. | Blair Woods Sanctuary, 5401 E. MLK Dr.
    Join Travis Audubon for a morning of reptile-themed educational activities at Blair Woods Sanctuary, a natural oasis in east Austin! See real reptiles, both native and exotic, do reptile-themed crafts, and partake in other fun and family-friendly activities that celebrate our favorite scaly and slithering critters! This event is free and open to the public. Snacks and water will be provided.
  5. Bubblepalooza
    Saturday, June 9 | from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Long Center, 701 W. Riverside Dr.
    Everyone loves bubbles! That’s why Bubblepalooza is perfect for families of all ages—a whole day filled with music and games and fun in the sun (and bubbles). This year’s activities include a giant rock climbing wall, trampolines, face painting, foam pits, chalk arts, games, toys from Toy Joy, and more! There will also be live music throughout the day, featuring Big Don, Trout Fishing in America, and The Saddle Sores (aka the White Ghost Shivers). Event is happening at the HEB Terrace at the Long Center.
  6. Family Programs: For the Birds
    Saturday, June 9 | from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. | Contemporary Austin at Laguna Gloria, 3809 W 35th St.
    Did you know Laguna Gloria is home to over 160 species of birds? Learn about the avian population and make a flight-friendly abode for feathered friends in your own backyard! Stay awhile for some Birdy Bowling before you take off. H-E-B and HomeAway support these free family programs.
  7. 2018 Summer Kids Series
    Saturday, June 9 | from 1 to 3 p.m. | Austin Humane Society, 124 W Anderson Ln.
    The youngest animal lover in your life has more reason to celebrate this summer, as the Summer Kids Series gets underway. 2018 marks six years for the family favorite that allows kids to get hands on as they learn more about the world of animals and the Austin Humane Society. Along the way they’ll find out what it means to care for a pet of their own and be inspired to help animals in need. This week’s session is Teddy Bear Surgery for ages 8 and younger.
  8. Joshua’s Stage Open House and Resource Fair
    Sunday, June 10 | from 12 to 4 p.m. | ZACH Theatre North,  12129 Ranch Rd. 620 N, Suite 310
    Joshua’s Stage is very excited to host the first Open House and Resource Fair, and would love for you and your family to be a part of it! The Joshua’s Stage Open House and Resource Fair is a wonderful opportunity for you to explore how the innovative The Creative Outlet Method™ can benefit your child. Your child will have the chance to experience the program by performing in a Create-A-Story activity for a live audience! Plus, you’ll meet other fabulous organizations who share their passion. Light refreshments will be provided, and raffle prizes will be drawn throughout the afternoon.
  9. Summertime & Dad’s Day Flea at the ABGB
    Sunday, June 10 | from 12 to 5 p.m. | ABGB, 1305 W. Oltorf Sweat it out at the always rockin’ ABGB for the 2nd Sundays series on June 10 for a special Summertime Austin Flea! The Flea features all local handmade items and vintage wares from some of Austin’s most amazing and talented vendors. Plus, Sunday’s best music from 4 to 8 p.m. with The Feral Four. Entrance to the event is free and open to all ages!
  10. Hartman Foundation Concerts in the Park
    Sunday, June 10 | from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. | Long Center, 701 W. Riverside Dr.
    These free ensemble concerts take place at the Hartman Concert Park in front of the Long Center City Terrace, and each Sunday a different ensemble of the ASO will be featured. A variety of music will be performed, from jazz and light classical to pops selections and film scores. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner and blanket and make it a group outing.
