It’s looking to be a beautiful weekend in Austin, and we’ve got the best family friendly events to do it up right! From a dance party to a celebration of Texas wildlife to a Goonies themed Sunday funday, these are the top 10 FREE events happening in and around Austin this week.

A big thanks to this week’s sponsor, Kiddie Academy Round Rock. On Saturday, January 27, Central Texas families can celebrate the opening of the newest Kiddie Academy in Round Rock with a DanceParty! event and ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Country Western themed event is an interactive celebration designed to encourage children and parents to explore the physical and mental health benefits of dance. If you aren’t able to make it to the DanceParty!, you can still learn all about Kiddie Academy of Round Rock and/or schedule a tour of the facility by clicking here.

 

Weekend Top 10 FREE Events: January 26-28, 2018

  1. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Community Cinema
    Friday, Jan. 26 | from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. | Community First! Village, 9301 Hog Eye Rd.
    Mobile Loaves & Fishes invites you to a free movie night at the Community First! Village. Grab chairs and a blanket, bring family and friends, and enjoy this special screening of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Get there as early as 6:30 to explore Community First! Village, pick your spot, and enjoy your favorite movie snacks. Burgers, Hot dogs, milkshakes, popcorn, candy and drinks will be available for purchase at our Community Grille (cash & cards accepted). The event is FREE, however a $5 donation would be highly appreciated.
  2. All About Owls
    Friday, Jan. 26 | from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. | Wells Branch Community Library, 15001 Wells Port Dr.
    Learn all about owls and get to see three different types of owls up close. FREE!
  3. Concert and Silent Auction
    Friday, Jan. 26 | from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. | Shepherd of the Hills Christian Church, 6909 West Courtyard Dr.
    A classical concert of superb musicians, this is a great cultural experience for families, a great way for kids to see other kids and famous musicians. Brooks Whitmore will be joined by soprano, Meredith Ruduski and saxophonist, Dr. Todd Oxford and middle/ high school students for this program.  Featured music will include pieces by Dello Joio, Couperin, Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart, Piazzolla, and Messiaen.  The evening will also feature a silent auction. Attendance is a freewill donation. All funds benefit children’s education for Regina Mater!
  4. Kiddie Academy DanceParty! and Ribbon Cutting

    Central Texas families can celebrate the opening of the newest Kiddie Academy in Round Rock with a DanceParty! event and ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Country Western themed event is an interactive celebration featuring dance, face painting, games, a bounce house, crafts, a country themed photo booth, a pay-on-your-own food truck, and local business showcase.   5. Texas Wildlife Day

    Celebrate everything feathered, furred, smooth, and scaled at Texas Memorial Museum! FREE admission and FREE family-friendly activities hosted by UT Austin scientists, TMM science educators, and local chapters of Texas Master Naturalists.
  6. Free Family Yoga

    Join ATX Yoga Girl for FREE family yoga at Toms. This FREE event in a great way to connect. move, play interactive yoga games, and practice partner poses while building community. Bring your own mat and join in on the fun.

    This event is for any student interested in science, technology, engineering, and math! There will be a series of guest speakers and workshops about artificial intelligence, codelabs, STEM careers, and more. Bring any used electronics or batteries to donate.     Celebrate Texas trees in the Arboretum with tree climbing, walks and talks, s’more roasting, fort building and more! The Wildflower Center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with FREE Winter Tree Fest activities happening from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to the Ladybird Wildlife Center is $10 for adults and $4 for youth.
