February is rolling along and we’ve got the best family friendly events to get your weekend going! From spelunking to history hunting to bounce house jumping, these are the top 10 FREE events happening in and around Austin this week.

Weekend Top 10 FREE Events: February 9-11, 2018

  1. Free Dark Girls (2011) Screening – That’s My Face Film Series
    Friday, Feb. 9 | from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. | Old Quarry Branch – Austin Public Library, 7051 Village Center Dr.
    This young adult film series is FREE and open to the public. Dark Girls is a documentary exploring the deep-seated biases and attitudes about skin color—particularly dark skinned women, outside of and within the Black American culture. Film is not rated.   2. FIT4MOM Hill Country – National Pizza Day Play Date

    Enjoy a play date celebrating National Pizza Day. Your kids can enjoy some snacks and fun crafts while moms can get to know the FIT4MOM Hill Country tribe.   3. Bright Horizons at Westlake’s Grand Opening Celebration

    Enjoy a morning of family fun at Bright Horizons at Westlake’s upcoming Grand Opening Celebration!   4. The Empty Mug Project

    There’s something for everyone at this FREE event – a ceramic art market with local, hand-crafted mugs, free coffee and cupcakes. All mug proceeds will go to the Restoration Art Center, a local non-profit serving at-risk youth in East Pflugerville. Support the community while enjoying a relaxed Saturday morning!   5. Austin Cave Festival

    Join the celebration of cave habitat and groundwater at this free, family-friendly event that will feature hands-on activities, cave explorations, guided hikes, science and adventure presentations, videos, live music, and more. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet animals that call Austin’s caves home, try on caving gear, and learn how to protect and conserve Austin’s water resources.
  6. History Hunt in Travis Heights
    Saturday, Feb. 10 | from 9 to 11 a.m. | Blunn Creek Greenbelt, Near the Intersection of East Side and Lockhart Drives
    Preservation Austin’s History Hunt is coming to Travis Heights! This FREE architectural scavenger hunt combines active learning, exercise, and games to get families outside and exploring Austin’s historic neighborhoods. This year’s event, presented with the South River City Citizens Neighborhood Association, will be our first in South Austin. Elementary-aged children will follow clues to (top secret) stops throughout the Blue Bonnet Hills section of Travis Heights, learning about historic architecture along the way. Sack races, hula hoops, and other activities will abound! Prizes will be awarded to the race champions at the finish line, where kids can make valentines dedicated to Austin’s historic buildings. Light snacks and hot cocoa provided. All children must have an adult chaperone.
  7. Staci Gray Kids’ Concert
    Sunday, Feb. 11 | from 10 to 11:30 a.m. | in.gredients, 2610 Manor Rd.

    Staci Gray’s original music gets children to sing, dance, and get their sillies out. Parents can relax and sip on a delicious cappuccino or latte, and of course, they are welcome to sing, dance, and get their sillies out, too!
  8. Free Day of Camp

    Experience the Best Day Ever! Do you miss camp? Do you want to learn more about JCamps? If so, join the Shalom Austn Jewish Community Center for a Free Day of Camp! Campers get a snapshot of our three different camp departments, then come together for a Song Session with Mr. Max. Includes exclusive JCamps t-shirt and awesome camp swag. RSVP here by Feb. 8.
  9. February Family Day
    Sunday, Feb. 11 | from 12 to 4 p.m. | UMLAUF Sculpture Garden & Museum, 605 Robert E Lee Rd.
    Celebrate Black History Month at the UMLAUF! The UMLAUF will be hosting space for local artists of color to exhibit their work. Grab your entire family and meet in the garden for a full day of activities including arts & crafts, music, dance performances and so much more. February’s Family Day will feature a performance from Sylla Music, a short lecture from the African American Cultural & Heritage Facility Center, an opportunity to view UT Art History Professor – Dr. Christopher Adejumo’s wood carving in process, and mindfulness practice from a local practitioner. The event is totally FREE and open to the public.
  10. 2nd Sunday Family Day: Hey Lollies & Valentine crafts!
    Sunday, Feb. 11 | from 2 to 6 p.m. | Live Oak Brewing Company, 1615 Crozier Ln., Del Valle
    Make-your-own-Valentine station in the taproom till 6pm! All the stuff your kids need to make all kinds of fun paper crafts. At 2 p.m.. Hey Lollies perform and at 3 p.m., the bounce house goes up. Hey Lolly Music, created by Austin musician Laura Freeman, brings you an array of interactive, educational children’s shows that are fun for the whole family. Learn about other languages, the colors of the rainbow, enjoying our beautiful Mother Earth and more! Her album Color Wheel Cartwheel was recognized by Parenting Magazine as a baby must-have. Head over for a rainbowlicious, puddle-stomping, monster-marching good time!
