Another wonderful Austin weekend is here and there are so many great things to do in and around town! Here are the top 10 FREE Austin events happening this weekend.

  1. Movie Matinee: Dora and the Lost City of Gold
    Friday, February 28| From 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.| Austin Public Library – Ruiz Branch, 1600 Grove Boulevard
    The perfect start to the weekend. Join the Austin Public Library’s Ruiz branch location for the movie and some snacks! All ages welcome.
  2. Story and Craft Time
    Friday, February 28| From 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.| Brentwood Social House, 1601 West Koenig Lane
    Coffee and Books! Brentwood Social House and Virginia Schnobrich, an independent consultant with Usborne Books & More, have partnered to have a themed craft and storytime. Enjoy your morning cup of joe while your little ones enjoy fun, interactive stories featuring lots of rhythm and rhyme that will get them moving and shaking. This event is FREE for all participants!
  3.  Slavic Mardi Gras “Maslenitsa”
    Saturday, February 29 | All Day| Moontower Saloon, 10212 Manchaca Road
    This unique outdoor festival brings the Slavic community together in a celebration rich in heritage, traditions, food, music, dance, and accomplishments through their cuisines, custom beers, music, and displays. Slavic Mardi Gras “Maslenitsa” the only one Annual Slavic Heritage Festival in Austin! Don’t miss out! All ages welcome.
  4. Community Health Fair
    Saturday, February 29 | From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.|Asian American Resource Center, 8401 Cameron Road

    FREE health resources, screenings, vaccinations and activities for the whole family. Interpretation services available in Burmese languages (Burmese, Chin, Karen, Karenni) and Nepali. FREE and open to the public.Pres1ented in collaboration with Austin Public Health and the Austin Asian Community Health Initiative.
  5. Austin Boxing Babes Open House
    Saturday, February 29 |From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.| Austin Boxing Babes, 2919 Manchaca Road
    Attention women and girls! Join Austin Boxing Babes for free classes in boxing and martial arts and self defense! There will also be local vendors and giveaways.
  6. Code Chica
    Saturday, February 29 | From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.| Latinitas HQ, 1023 Springdale Road

    Latinitas is an Austin based non-profit dedicated to encouraging girls to innovate through media and technology! Latinitas has created an 8 week coding workshop for girls in grades 8-12. The workshop is FREE! Students will learn the basics of HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Upon completion of the workshop, girls will earn a certification and a cash stipend.   7. Autism Activity Day
    Saturday, February 29| From 2 to 4 p.m.| High Hopes Sports Center, 1800 Clover Lane (Cedar Park)

    Attend a FREE sensory-friendly day at High Hopes Sports Center hosted by Centria Autism. Whether you’re getting your picture taken with your favorite superhero, meeting local community heroes, running around obstacle courses with friends, getting your face painted by a professional, or getting creative with an arts & craft project, you and your family will have a great time. All ages and abilities are welcome.
  8. Leap Day Social With Swoovy
    Saturday, February 29| From 3 to 6 p.m.| Ellis, 111 Congress Avenue 

    Make the most of your bonus day! Get out in the community, bring old friends, make some new ones, and get take advantage of this gift of one more day this year. There will be: live music, special drink discounts, local vendors, photobooth, great area nonprofits, prizes, and even some ATX celebs (TBA)!
  9. Echoes and Spaces, New Paintings by Shawn Camp and Lana Waldrep-Appl
    Sunday, March 1 | All Day | ICOSA Collective, 702 Shady Lane
    In Echoes and SpacesLana Waldrep-Appl and Shawn Camp explore the feelings of the sublime that happen in those moments when you allow yourself to completely reside inside of the space you are in. These paintings feel like daydreaming, an activity that takes place primarily when one is doing nothing. Both artists are interested in exploring the something-ness of nothing. Enjoy the FREE exhibition.
  10. The Austin Flea at Central Machine Works
    Sunday, March 1 | From 12 to 5 p.m. | Central Machine Works, 4824 East Cesar Chavez Street

    The Flea features all local handmade items and vintage wares from some of Austin’s most amazing and talented vendors. Find one-of-a-kind gifts for any occasion including jewelry, bath/body products, vintage, original artwork, paper goods, textiles and so much more. Entrance to the event is FREE and open to all ages!
