February is coming to a close and we’ve got the best family friendly events to get your weekend going! From celebrating the Lunar New Year to Black History Month to the Blanton’s new permanent exhibit and the Austin Chronicle’s pet issue, these are the top 10 FREE events happening in and around Austin this week.

With so much to choose from, it can become a bit overwhelming analyzing and organizing the best choices for your children, but Nurture My Child is here to help! Nurture My Child’s Camp Fair is happening on Sunday, February 25 from 1 to 4 p.m. The Norris Conference Center will be packed with information and fun, a space where parents can find more than 60 camp representatives for upcoming programs all over Austin. Weekend Top 10 FREE Events: February 23-25, 2018

  1. Barbara Jordan featured at Texas Capitol Exhibit
    Friday, Feb. 23 & Saturday, Feb. 24 | at 9 a.m. | Texas State Capitol, 1100 S. Congress Ave.
    In honor of Black History Month and relevant to the issues America faces today, this exhibit highlights Barbara Jordan’s significant impact on civil rights legislation, female empowerment and social justice. The Barbara Jordan Freedom Foundation will display an interactive exhibit of Jordan’s life on the ground floor of the Texas Capitol Rotunda from Monday, February 19, to Saturday, February 24, 2018. The exhibit is FREE and open to the public.
  2. Living Leander Community Expo (Leander)
    Friday, Feb. 23 | from 3 to 8 p.m. | Premier Athletic Complex, 8220 183A Toll Rd., Leander
    This FREE community event provides tons of fun for all ages of the community. Join them for shows, explore booths, apply for a job with one of our job fair vendors, or participate in the $1,000 prize give away. Activities include: Laser Tag, games throughout the show, and so much more!
  3. Ron Campbell Beatles Cartoon Art Show
    Friday, Feb. 23 to Sunday, Feb. 25 | Hours Vary |Toy Joy, 318 W. 2nd St.
    Austin Rocks Texas and Toy Joy are proud to present a special pop-up art exhibition featuring famed The Beatles Yellow Submarine animator and Beatles Saturday Morning TV Cartoon series director Ron Campbell Cartoon Pop Art!   4. Car Show and Market Day (Cedar Park)
    Saturday, Feb. 24 | from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. | Cedar Park High School, 2150 Cypress Creek Rd., Cedar Park
    A fun and FREE event for the entire family! Car enthusiasts will enjoy strolling through rows of exceptional cars, trucks and bikes. Everyone will enjoy shopping the booths surrounding the car show grounds which will feature local artists, craftsmen and businesses. Take part in the silent auction, grab lunch from onsite food trucks or a sweet from the bake sale. Music, kids activities and more! All proceeds go to Cedar Park High School Project Graduation.
  5. Staci Gray Kids’ Concert
    Saturday, Feb. 24| from 10 to 11:30 a.m. | in.gredients, 2610 Manor Rd.
    Staci Gray‘s original music gets children to sing, dance, and get their sillies out. Parents can relax and sip on a delicious cappuccino or latte, and of course, they are welcome to sing, dance, and get their sillies out, too!
  6. Girl Day 2018
    Saturday, Feb. 24 | from 12 to 5 p.m. | University of Texas
    Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day and the Girl Day STEM Festival will be held on Saturday, February 24, on the UT Austin campus from 12 to 5 p.m. Over 8,000 elementary and middle school students are expected to participate with over 1,300 volunteers and over 150 student organizations, community organizations and companies volunteering. Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (Girl Day) is an international event celebrated during Engineers Week each year. Find parking at 27th St. Garage (109 W. 27th Street), Speedway Garage (105 E. 27th Street), and San Antonio Garage (2420 San Antonio St).
  7. Searsucker Hosts Cans & Jams
    Saturday, Feb. 24 | from 3 to 6 p.m. | Searsucker, 415 Colorado St.
    Searsucker’s monthly live music series “Cans & Jams” continues with Big Bend Brewing Co. on Saturday, February 24. Taking place at the downtown restaurant from 3 to 6 p.m., guests will enjoy live music from Austin local Bob n’ Sammie, discounted $4 cans, swag giveaways, and a pig roast menu. Drink for a good cause as a portion of proceeds from can purchases during the event will be donated to Texas Parks & Wildlife Foundation in support of native wildlife. No tickets required to attend, however RSVPs are encouraged here. 
  8. 2018 Nurture My Child Camp Fair

  9. The Austin Flea at Brentwood Social House

    The Austin Flea is back at it for their new monthly partnership at this fantastic North Central coffeehouse – Brentwood Social House – for a series of 4th Sundays Austin Fleas. The Flea features all local handmade items and vintage wares from some of Austin’s most amazing and talented vendors.   10. Bring the Sing Family Karaoke

If you’ve dreamed of being in Pitch Perfect or killing it at the school talent show, this party is for you. Kids 13 and under must be accompanied by a parent but teens are welcome to come solo.
