Weekend Top 10 FREE Events: December 20 through 22, 2019

Another wonderful Austin weekend is here, and there are so many great things to do in and around town. Here are the top 10 FREE Austin events happening this weekend.

  1. Hill Country Galleria Holiday Village
    Friday through Sunday, December 20 through 22 | Hours Vary| Hill Country Galleria

    Hill Country Galleria will host a Holiday Village on the lawn, starting on Saturday, November 23 and extending through the month of December, where guests can walk the decorated walkways and shop for gifts and goods like custom gifts, ornaments, seasonal coffee and cocoa, mulled cider, toys, spices, and apothecary goods from holiday vendors, such as CiMi Shine, ATX Wood Crafts, Grace & Charm, and more. Guests can also enjoy holiday entertainment like carolers and local dance and choir performances. Santa’s Workshop will also be open within the Holiday Village starting November 24 for guests to meet Santa and get special keepsake photos taken. See Hill Country Galleria’s website for their full schedule.
  2. Trail of Lights (Buda)
    Friday through Sunday, December 20 through 22 | from 6 to 10 p.m. | Historic Stagecoach Park, 880 Main Street, Buda
    Trail of Lights at Stagecoach Park is open Fridays through Sundays. Trail of Lights is a free holiday event that features lighted and decorated displays that are provided by local businesses and organizations. Visitors are able to walk the lighted trail in the park to view the dazzling exhibits, sip hot chocolate, and meet Santa himself.
  3. Family Movie: Elf
    Friday, December 20 | from 1 to 3 p.m. | Lake Travis Community Library, 1938 Lohmans Crossing
    Join for popcorn, coloring activities, and the laugh-out-loud holiday classic Elf.
  4. It’s a Grinchy Solstice
    Friday, December 20 | from 6 to 9 p.m. | Suds Monkey Brewing Company, 1032 Canyon Bend Drive Suite A
    Holidays offer something for everyone… even the Grinch. Come eat dinner with us in your oogliest sweater, onesie or jammies for a chance to win some fun prizes. We will be playing the Grinch that Stole Christmas at 6:30 to 8 p.m. courtesy of friend of the brewery, Devon Austin, and we will have visits with Santa from 6 to 8 p.m. Simmer down with some FREE hot cocoa and fun solstice crafts for the birds and other critters. Bounce your grinchies out with Jump Bounce Houses. We will also be raffling giveaways – a bike, scooter and more. Plus…a little birdie told us, it is Carter’s birthday – help us celebrate!
  5. Die Hard Free Outdoor Screening
    Friday, December 20 | from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. | Community First! Village, 9301 Hog Eye Road

    Mobile Loaves & Fishes invites you to a free movie night at Community First! Village. Grab chairs and a blanket, bring family and friends, and enjoy this special screening. Come explore Community First! Village, pick your spot, and enjoy your favorite movie snacks from the Community Grill. SPECIAL THEMED MENU will feature DIE HARD themed dishes! Burgers, french fries, snacks, and drinks will be available for purchase (cards only, cash no longer accepted). The event is free, however a $5 donation would be highly appreciated.
  6. Holiday Craft-A-Palooza Carver Edition
    Saturday, December 21 | from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Carver Branch Library, 1161 Angelina Street

    Seven of the APL branches have hosted different crafts during the month of December. This weekend, they will be creating iron-on bags at the Carver Branch! All supplies provided.
  7. Holiday Craft-A-Palooza Windsor Park Edition
    Saturday, December 21 | from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. | Windsor Park Branch Library,
    5833 Westminster Drive
    Seven of the APL branches have hosted different crafts during the month of December. This weekend, they will be creating lanterns with metal and fabric at the Windsor Park Branch! All supplies provided. 
  8. Holiday Austin Flea at Fareground
    Sunday, December 22 | from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. | Fareground 111, 111 Congress Avenue
    Close out the Flea year in downtown Austin with Fareground! Do your last minute holiday shopping during the 4th Sundays Flea at Fareground Market – a fabulous venue that hosts so many delicious eateries. The Flea features all local handmade items and vintage wares from some of Austin’s most amazing and talented vendors. Find one-of-a-kind gifts anyone and any occasion with jewelry, bath/body products, vintage finds, original artwork, paper goods, textiles and so much more! Entrance to the event is free and open to all ages!
  9. Christmas Towne and Mighty Thomas Carnival (Round Rock)
    Sunday, December 22 | from 2 to 9 p.m. | Dell Diamond
    Take your family to the FREE Christmas Towne at the Old Settlers Association and the Dell Diamond parking lot. Christmas Towne features amazing light displays including a walking tunnel of lights, full-scale carnival rides, holiday refreshments and more. Christmas Towne is located at the Old Settlers Association and the Dell Diamond parking lot. Entrance address is 3300 E. Palm Valley Blvd. Christmas Towne is adjacent to the exciting Thomas Carnival featuring full-scale carnival rides. Fun for all ages!
  10. Easy Tiger Winter Movie Series
    Sunday, December 22 | from 8 to 10:30 p.m. | Easy Tiger, 709 East 6th Street
    It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Join for free holiday movies featuring your favorite seasonal films. Round up your elves for drinks & desserts in the Beer Garden – all movies start promptly at 8 p.m. Arrive early for good seats! December 22 movie is A Christmas Story.
