Another wonderful Austin weekend is here, and there are so many great things to do in and around town. Here are the top 10 FREE Austin events happening this weekend.

  1. Live Music at the Driskill
    Friday, December 27 | from 6 to 11 p.m. | The Driskill
    Bar, 604 Brazos Street
    Austin’s identity is synonymous with a rich music scene. Listen to live music each week with the Live @ The Driskill series, offered Monday through Saturday at The Driskill Bar. Sink into a cozy leather couch, sip a craft cocktail, enjoy small plate dining, and relax as you listen to music from a variety of genres. Many artists are up-and-coming musicians from right here in Texas, offering a true emphasis on promoting local culture. Awarded one of the Best Bars in Texas, there’s no better place to experience “The Live Music Capital of the World®” than The Driskill Bar.
  2. Driftwood Nights (Driftwood)
    Friday, December 27 | from 6 to 8 p.m. | Vista Brewing, 13551 Ranch to Market Rd 150, Driftwood

    A candlelight show every Friday evening in December celebrating the first Anniversary of Driftwood Nights. Over 40 local songwriters have played over 50 shows since we launched the series, showcasing their passion and creativity. Free show. Rain or shine. Friday, 12/27 artist is Mario Matteoli (of The Joe Jacksons).
  3. Bastrop River of Lights (Bastrop)
    Friday and Saturday, December 27 and 28 | from dusk to 10 p.m. | Fisherman’s Park, 1200 Willow Streer, Bastrop
    Take in the FREE River of Lights, 120 lighted displays in a variety of seasonal themes lining Bastrop’s scenic Colorado River Walk and enhanced by music. To access this one-half mile promenade, come down the stairs west of the intersection of Main and Pine Streets or select the fully accessible entrance at Fisherman’s Park on Farm Street. The Bastrop Chamber of Commerce and community organizations and individuals generously provide this traditional treat enjoyed by all ages and by visitors and locals alike.
  4. Zilker Tree
    Friday through Sunday, December 27 through 29 | from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. | Zilker Park, 2100 Barton Springs Road
    Each year, the Austin community eagerly awaits the lighting of the 155-foot tall Zilker Tree as a symbol of the upcoming holiday season. The tree will be lit nightly from December 1 through the end of the year, but note that area roads will be closed for the Trail of Lights most of that time. FREE!
  5. Mozart’s Annual Light Show
    Friday through Sunday, December 27 through 29 | from 6 to 11 p.m. | Mozart’s Coffee Roasters, 3825 Lake Austin Boulevard
    Starting at 6 p.m. each evening, and replaying at the top of every hour until closing, enjoy dazzling lights set to music!  The lights show will happen every night. Don’t miss out on all the FREE holiday fun!
  6. Christmas Towne and Mighty Thomas Carnival (Round Rock)
    Friday through Sunday, December 27 through 29 | from 4 to 10 p.m. on Friday, 2 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, 2 to 9 p.m. on Sunday | Dell Diamond, 3400 East Palm Valley Boulevard, Round Rock
    Take your family to the FREE Christmas Towne at the Old Settlers Association and the Dell Diamond parking lot. Christmas Towne features amazing light displays including a walking tunnel of lights, full-scale carnival rides, holiday refreshments and more. Christmas Towne is located at the Old Settlers Association and the Dell Diamond parking lot. Entrance address is 3300 East Palm Valley Blvd. Christmas Towne is adjacent to the exciting Thomas Carnival featuring full-scale carnival rides. Fun for all ages!
  7. SFC Farmer’s Market Downtown
    Saturday, December 28 | from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Republic Square Park, 422 Guadalupe Street

    Join Austhentico at the Farmer’s Market Downtown every Saturday with an array of vendors, live music & activities.

  8. Beaver Tails (Lockhart)
    Saturday, December 28 | from 8 to 9 p.m. | Lockhart State Park, 2012 State Park Road, Lockhart

    Join a park ranger for a quick discussion about beavers before we walk down the golf cart path to look for signs of our furry residents! Learn why beavers build dams, how they cut down trees (spoiler: really, REALLY strong teeth), and how they can survive in freezing-cold water! Meet at the Park HQ. Comfortable outdoor clothes, close-toed shoes/boots.  Dress for the weather; we’ll be outside. Bring water to drink, if needed, and a flashlight for observing wildlife (beavers, deer, armadillos, and whatever else we may see!)
  9. Lone Star Farmer’s Market
    Sunday, December 29 | from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. | Hill Country Galleria, 12700 Hill Country Boulevard

    Join every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Central Plaza lawn for the Lone Star Farmers Market. Shop over 40 local vendors, enjoy live music, and Hill Country Galleria shops and restaurants.
  10. Baby & Me Pop-Up Peekaboo (Bee Cave)
    Sunday, December 29 | from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. | Barnes & Noble, 12701 Hill Country Boulevard, Suite O-140

    Join every Sunday for the Baby & Me Storytime, as you read a book and participate in activities featuring sensory growth for your little ones. For caregivers and children ages 0-2. Plus, get a coupon for a free tall, hot or iced Starbucks coffee (Café stores only).
