Another wonderful weekend is here, and there are so many great things to do in and around Austin. Here are the top 10 FREE Austin events happening this weekend.

  1. Lone Star Saber Academy Movie in the Park (Round Rock)
    Friday, August 30 | from 7 to 10:30 p.m. | Sundrop Park and Pool, 1100 Sundrop Place, Round Rock

    Lone Star Saber Academy (LSSA) and Round Rock Ranch is hosting “Star Wars Movie in the Park”. Sundrop park and pool is at 1100 Sundrop Place, RR, TX. * *Admission is a non-perishable food item which will be donated to Round Rock Serving Center. * * Event starts at 7pm with a lightsaber demo and teaching by LSSA. (Participants for saber class must be age 6 or older and have signed our liability form available at the event). A Star Wars short (fan) film, “Jedi Disturbance” will start at 730 and the movie, “Star Wars, A New Hope” will start at 745. Please bring a blanket to sit on and feel free to bring snacks (no glass). Popcorn and drinks will be complimentary of Round Rock Ranch.
  2. Music in the Park (Pflugerville)
    Friday, August 30 | from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. | Pfluger Park, 515 City Park Road

    Music in the Park is an outdoor concert series hosted at Pfluger Park (515 City Park Rd.) on Friday nights from 7:30 – 9:30 pm. The series host a variety of different music acts. Light refreshments will be available for purchase. Dogs, picnics and alcohol (no glass bottles) are allowed. For more information on Music in the Park, visit pflugervilletx.gov/musicinthepark.
  3. Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope Free Outdoor Screening
    Friday, August 30 | from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. | Community Cinema & Amphitheater, 9301 Hog Eye Road

    Mobile Loaves & Fishes invites you to a free movie night at our Community First! Village. Grab chairs and a blanket, bring family and friends, and enjoy this special screening. Come explore Community First! Village, pick your spot, and enjoy your favorite movie snacks from the Community Grille. Burgers, french fries, snacks, and drinks will be available for purchase (cards only, cash no longer accepted). The event is free, however a $5 donation would be highly appreciated. Donations can be made via donation bucket at the venue.
  4. Free Austin Author Story Time
    Saturday, August 31 | from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. | Book People, 603 North Lamar Boulevard

    Enjoy a free story time at BookPeople with Austin author and illustrator Lee Zee! Lee will read her picture book, Ellie’s Car Kindergarten, also available in a Spanish / English bilingual version (El Kindergarten en el Carro para Ellie). In Ellie’s Car Kindergarten, we meet Sammie and her stuffed elephant, Ellie. They are nervous about spending the day apart while Sammie is at school until they learn that Ellie gets to have her very own kindergarten in the mama’s car! There will be a coloring activity at the event. The “real” Ellie will be there to help introduce the story, for photo ops, and she even “signs” books! Children are also welcome to bring their favorite stuffed animal to hear the story and to meet Ellie. If they are a little nervous about school, Ellie can whisper words of encouragement in their ears.
  5. Block Printing Basics (Lockhart)
    Saturday, August 31 | from 2 to 3 p.m. | Lockhart State Park,

    Try your hand at this unique art technique! In this program, we will use two techniques to carve pictures into foam blocks, which makes “stamps” that can be coated with ink and pressed onto paper to produce a print. Recommended for ages 4 . No registration required. Regular park entrance fees apply ($3/adult, free for children 12 & under).
  6. H-E-B Free First Sunday
    Sunday, September 1 | from 12 to 5 p.m. | Bullock Texas State History Museum, 1800 Congress Avenue

    Enjoy FREE exhibition admission all day during Free First Sundays, held the first Sunday of every month. You can explore the Story of Texas through three floors of exhibitions that showcase artifacts from around the state.
  7. Cafe Josie’s Labor Day Lawn Party
    Sunday, September 1 | from 5 to 8 p.m. | Cafe Josie, 1200 B West 6th Street

    Close out summer at Josie’s first annual Lawn Party! Come hang on our lawn on Sunday, September 1 with live music and specials including: $5 pork sando plates with sides by Chef Todd Havers, $5 cocktails, $3 beers. BYO lawn chair & blankets.   8. Splash Jam (Cedar Park)
    Sunday, September 1 | from 6 to 9 p.m. | Elizabeth Milburn Park

    A washer tournament will begin at 4 p.m.  Beginning at 6 p.m., enjoy live music, food concessions, inflatables, carnival games and rides (fees apply), and fireworks at dark. Admission is free. Cool off in Milburn Pool from 1 p.m. – 8 p.m. (regular pool rates apply).
  9. Labor Day Party with Austin Flea and Live Oak Brewing
    Monday, September 2 | from 12 to 5 p.m. | Live Oak Brewing

    Hang out at this established Austin icon brewery on Monday, September 2 for a Labor Day Party with Live Oak Brewing Company. The Flea features all local handmade items and vintage wares from some of Austin’s most amazing and talented vendors. Find one-of-a-kind gifts for any occasion including jewelry, bath/body products, vintage, original artwork, paper goods, textiles and so much more! Live music and fun for all throughout the day! Entrance to the event is Free and open to all ages!
  10. UT CBFL Field Day
    Monday, September 2 | from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Zilker Park
    , 2100 Barton Springs Road
    UT CBFL is excited to welcome people (new + old) to Austin and they’re kicking off the year by having a field day at Zilker Park! Start off our day with Daily Mass at St. Austin’s Catholic Church at 8 a.m. They’ll have worship, fellowship, sports as well as snacks. Feel free to invite friends!
