LEGO KidsFest is coming to the Austin Convention Center September 4 – 6 and we have three family packs of  Very Important Kid tickets to give away! Weekend Top 10 FREE Events

  1. Live Music at Central Market North – Friday, August 21 from 6:30-9 p.m. Enjoy FREE Indian/Soul music performed by Naga Valli and let the kids play on the playground. Central Market North, 4001 N Lamar Blvd, Austin.
  2. GirlStart Back to School STEM Saturday – Saturday, August 22 from 9:30 a.m. – noon. Kick off the school year with FREE fun for the whole family, including mini planetarium star shows! RSVP here. GirlStart, 1400 W Anderson Lane, Austin.
  3. Twin Oaks Branch 5th Anniversary Celebration – Saturday, August 22 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Celebrate the 5th Anniversary of this Austin Public Library branch with a puppet show from Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre, bubble games, cake and a special talk entitled “Libraries: Humanity’s Greatest Achievement (Besides Whiskey and Chocolate),” from Owen Egerton, a local screenwriter, novelist, performer and host of the monthly KUT podcast, The Write Up.   4. Austin Summer Musical for Children: Junie B. Jones The Musical – Saturday, August 22 at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. and Sunday, August 23 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. The show is recommended for children age 3 to 10. Tickets are FREE, but go fast, so it is advisable to arrive at least half an hour early. Saturday Afternoon Movie: Big Hero 6 – Saturday, August 22 at 2 p.m. The special bond that develops between plus-sized inflatable robot Baymax, and prodigy Hiro Hamada, who team up with a group of friends to form a band of high-tech heroes. Rated PG. FREE! APL – University Hills Branch, 4721 Loyola Ln, Austin.

Free Family Movies at the Bullock: Nocturna – Saturday, August 22 at 2 p.m.  The Bullock Museum is a Summer Free Family Series will conclude with a FREE screening of Nocturna. Have you ever wondered why your hair looks funny in the morning or where the sounds outside your window come from at night? A young boy named Tim finds out after an unusual discovery on the rooftop of his orphanage plunges him into the secret world of Nocturna, inhabited by curious creatures who control the night. FREE, but each attendee needs to get a ticket from the front counter prior to making their way to the Spirit Theater. Tickets are limited.   7. The Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival – Sunday, August 23 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Celebrate 25 years of the biggest hot sauce festival in the world! Sample hundreds of hot sauces and enjoy live music by some of Austin’s top performers. This year’s lineup features Dale Watson & His Lone Stars, Sweet Spirit, Bidi Bidi Banda, Sphynx, and the Tiarra Girls. This family-friendly event is FREE with a suggested donation of three nonperishable food items or $5 to Capital Area Food Bank of Texas. Fiesta Gardens, 2100 Jesse E. Segovia St., Austin.
  8. UUMC Clothing Swap – Sunday, August 23 from 12-3 p.m. University United Methodist Church is hosting its first Clothing Swap. Recycle your threads at UUMC. Gather unwanted, but gently used clothing, shoes and accessories and bring them to swap with others from the community. Adult sizes, kid sizes and baby sizes are all welcome. Any items left over after the swap will be donated to the Fig Leaf clothing ministry. Parking is available in the platinum lot across the street on Guadalupe, and is FREE all day. University United Methodist Church, 2409 Guadalupe St, Austin.

Central Austin Arts Block Party – Sunday, August 23 from 1-6 p.m. 14 of Austin’s best and brightest arts organizations invite you to an unprecedented joint effort – the Austin Arts Block Party celebrating more than 138 shows, concerts, exhibits and events through the 2015-2016 season! This FREE event is open to the public and offers some of the year’s very best and exclusive discount ticket opportunities!   • City of Austin Back to School Bash Events – Friday, August 21 from 5:30-8 p.m. (Metz Recreation Center, 2407 Canterbury Street) and Saturday, August 22 from 10 a.m. – noon (Dove Springs Recreation Center, 5801 Ainez Drive). Enjoy FREE fun for the whole family!
  • El Mundo Back to School Festival – Saturday, August 22 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. FREE immunizations for children (with shot record), eye exams for children under 18, health screenings for children and adults, school supplies, back packs, car seats and more! Delco Center, 4601 Pecan Brook Drive, Austin.
  • Hat Creek Back to School Bash (Georgetown) – Saturday, August 22 from 5-8 p.m. Join Do512 Family and Hat Creek for the Hat Creek Back to School Bash.  Families can take advantage of half-off Kids Lunch Boxes and beer specials from Austin’s very own Strange Land Brewing.   • Back to School Sunday with Mission Church (Round Rock) – Sunday, August 23 at 9:30 a.m. This Sunday, Mission Church will hold services at Rabb Pavilion in Old Settlers Park.  There will be backpack giveaways and a bounce house at 9:30 a.m., followed by services at 10:00 and food trucks at 11:00.
