Another wonderful Austin weekend is here and there are so many great things to do in and around town! Here are the top 10 FREE Austin events happening this weekend.

  1. Chinese New Year Festival

    Welcome the Chinese New Year! You will be celebrating the Year of the Rat with dance performances, food, fun and so much more. FREE admission! Be sure to come out before all the food is gone!   2. Wholy Bagel Run
    Saturday, January 25 | from 8 to 10 a.m.| Austin American Statesman, 305 South Congress Avenue
    Austin 10K’r invites you to join us for a unique variety of fun running routes that will complement your Cap10K training. The Wholy Bagel Run is a creative 3 to 5-mile route that travels south into the historic Bouldin Creek Neighborhood and then returns along the vibrant South Lamar Entertainment District.  South Lamar has exploded with new restaurants, boutiques and condos in recent years ever changing the landscape of this sleepy boulevard. This is your chance to scope out the boulevard and plan something new for your next outing. The route finishes with a merge onto the Butler Hike & Bike Trail at Lady Bird Lake and a scenic view of downtown.  Enjoy coffee, hot chocolate and other snacks when you finish. The Wholly Bagel Run will start and finish at the Austin American-Statesman.
  3. Texas Wildlife Day
    Saturday, January 25 | from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.| Texas Memorial Museum
    Celebrate everything feathered, furred, smooth and scaled at Texas Memorial Museum! FREE admission and FREE family-friendly activities hosted by UT Austin scientists, TMM science educators, and members of the Capital Area, Good Water, and Lost Pines chapters of Texas Master Naturalists.
  4. Camp Gladiator FREE Bootcamp
    Saturday, January 25 | From 9 to 10 a.m. | Hill Country Galleria, 12700 Hill Country Boulevard
    This boot camp type workout will take place on the Central Plaza lawn and is open to anyone over the age of 14. It’s recommended to bring water, a towel, and yoga mat to make the workout more enjoyable. Sweat it out at this FREE event!
  5. Austin School Fair
    Saturday, January 25 | From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Bullock Texas State History Museum, 1800 Congress Avenue

    Celebrate National School Choice Week 2020! Learn more about your educational options right here in Austin! The 2020 Austin School Fair is free to attend and open to the public. Join more than 50 schools from across Central Texas to learn more about the ways they serve families just like yours! The event will include free give-aways, music, kid-friendly activities and games, and free food. The first 100 people to arrive will receive free admission to the Bob Bullock Museum as well as free parking.
  6. Hollywood Dreams! Study Film, Animation/VX, Music or Games!

Dale Price, MBA is the Founder of Access College America (www.AccessCollegeAmerica.Org), a national provider for college planning solutions. Families with high school kids that have interests in film, animation/vx, games, music & entertainment business are encouraged to attend! Discover college majors for the creative at heart and understand the mindset to make it on Sunset Blvd. Hear candid stories shared from ACA’s Founder while working with celebrities for nearly 10 years.
  7. Free Capoeira for All Ages
    Saturday, January 25 | from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. | Mexican American Cultural Center, 600 River Street

    Free Capoeira class and open Roda with Instructor Erick Salazar. Open to all ages and levels. This is a free class dedicated to the beauty of Capoeira, the Brazilian-African hybrid of dance, music and martial arts which aids children in working on their flexibility, rhythm and developmental coordination. In this class you will learn basic capoeira moves, music, and chants. At the end you will participate in “Open Roda” (Capoeira circle) were you will put in to practice what you have learned. This is an opportunity to experience Capoeira with no pressure, making this experience fun , entertaining and open to families and youth of all ages. No experience required. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle!
  8. BYOD Austin Bark in Zilker Park Pawty (FREE PUPpuccinos)

    Come share your pup’s new years resolutions! During the pawty, you’ll be able to sniff out and play with the humans and pups behind BYOD (Bring Your Own Dog). Please note, this is a laid back dog meet up for belly scratches and puppy kisses.
  9. Vasant Panchmi Kite Flying
    Sunday, January 26 | from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. | Radha Madhav Dham, 400 Barsana Road
    Vasant Panchami is a famous festival that marks the end of the Winter season and ushers in Spring! All wear bright yellow and participate in the festivities, which also includes flying kites!  JOIN DRESSED IN YELLOW for joyful kirtan at 11 a.m. and vegetarian lunch Prasad at 1:00pm to welcome the arrival of spring! They will be flying kites from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Bring your friends and family to this fun filled event and be sure to wear yellow and kites and snacks will be available to purchase while supplies last!
  10. Aussie Day Benefit
    Sunday, January 26 | from 12 to 3 p.m. | Little Darlin’, 6507 Circle South Road

    Join for some family friendly fun for a good cause! Little Darlin’ always knows how to put the fun in Sunday Funday, but January 26 is particularly special. Head to Little Darlin’ for Australia Day, where all proceeds from the event will be donated directly to the Red Cross AU and World Wildlife Fund AU. Enjoy face painting and a silent auction featuring tons of donations from folks like Johnson’s Backyard Garden, Fixe Southern House, Kinda Tropical, Barley Swine, ACL,  and more. Live music by The Joe Jacksons and Mili & Bertie starts at 12 p.m.
