VIVA! Streets Austin Returns to East 6th Street

VIVA Streets AustinJoin the energetic fun at VIVA! Streets,  a free festival that invites you to play, get fit, and celebrate good health. On Sunday, September 13, 2015, from 12:00-5:00 p.m., one-mile of East 6th Street will become a car-free playground for thousands of Austinites. Run, walk, bicycle, skateboard, rollerblade, skate, jog, skip, and play!

East 6th Street will be filled with activities, including hula hooping, ping pong, giant chess, jump roping, chalk art, bike polo, cane fishing, soccer, basketball, and more.

The mission of VIVA! Streets is to build communities by transforming public streets and encouraging active living through fitness and recreational activities and healthy food options.

Bring your family, pets (leashed, please), walking shoes, bikes, frisbees — whatever you need to have fun in the street!

Scheduled Activities

  • Bike Fun: bike polo, mini bike show, free repairs
  • Obstacle Courses: KidsKup (ages 3-10) and more
  • Martial Arts: capoeria, krav maga, karate
  • Dance/Fitness Classes: zumba, ballroom, samba, tango, cardio dance
  • Yoga: standing asana and more
  • Explore AFD’s Firetruck
  • Live Music: marching bands, play the drums in a drum circle
  • Cane Fishing, Animal Identification and Scavenger Hunt
  • Bird identification, learn how to make a bird call, go on bird walks
  • Gardening Classes: gardening, composting, seed bomb workshop
  • Arts and crafts projects
  • Games: ping pong, giant chess, hopscotch, petanque, putt putt
  • Sports: soccer, street hockey, basketball
  • Rest Stops/Cooling Stations: cold water, water bottles, snacks, massages
  • Pup Stops: water, treats, and shade for your four-legged friends

Open Play

Throughout the route, there will be spaces for open play. Play ping pong or jump rope, or bring you own activity, equipment, and friends to play soccer, bubbles, water balloons, basketball, chess, chalk art, dance, capture the flag… whatever you like! Have fun!
