UT Student Takes Graduation Cap to the Face and Never Stops Celebrating

Who needs fireworks when a swift knock in the face will have you seeing stars? That’s what recent UT graduate Meagan Richards learned at the annual UT fireworks display to celebrate graduation on Saturday.

Richards, a student of African and Africa Diaspora Studies, giant Beyonce fan, and our new favorite Twitter personality was celebrating with fellow graduates when the mortarboard changed her life. Or at least her weekend. “Because out of all 9,000 graduates out there, of course I would be the one that got hit in the face and caught it on camera,” Richards told Buzzfeed.

She has certainly received plenty of attention since posting the video to Twitter — the video has been retweeted 17,000 times and liked 24,000 times, as of this writing. Richards told Buzzfeed that “I knew the video made me and my friends laugh, but I never expected it to make this many people laugh.”

But that’s kind of a metaphor for life, right? Always be ready, because even at your highest moments, something might come through and smack you right in the face.

Big congrats to all of the Central Texas graduates who are moving on to the next parts of their lives. Just watch out for objects/heavy handed metaphors flying rapidly toward your face!
