Still finishing up your last errands before school starts? Don’t worry, we found plenty of fun and FREE things to do this weekend, and some that might even help with your back to school shopping!

This list contains a mix of family-friendly and adult focused Austin events.

Back to School Bash
Friday, August 12th | From 5 to 7:30 p.m. | Boys and Girls Club, 6648 Ed Bluestein Boulevard

Head to the Home Club for this FREE Back to School event. Expect food, fun, and free school supplies! This event is open to the community.

Movies in the Park: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Friday, August 12th | From 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. | Gregg Clarke Park, 1301 West Center Street, Kyle

This event is free to attend, no registration needed. Just show up, and make sure you bring the whole family! The movie will begin at sundown! Grab a blanket and a friend for another great season of the Movies in the Park shown on the big screen. Movies in the Park are FREE and fun for all ages!

Disney’s Newsies: a FREE play
Friday, August 12th | From 8 to 10 p.m. | Zilker Hillside Theater, 2206 William Barton Drive

Based on the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899, this hit Disney musical tells the story of Jack Kelly, a rebellious newsboy who dreams of a life as an artist away from the big city. After publishing giant Joseph Pulitzer raises newspaper prices at the newsboys’ expense, Kelly and his fellow newsies take action.

Lake Pflugerville Pfamily Pfish
Saturday, August 13th | From 8 to 11 a.m. | Lake Pflugerville, 18216 Weiss Lane, Pflugerville

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is hosting an educational fishing event with us at Lake Pflugerville about Ecology, Fish ID and Conservation as well as fishing techniques including casting and rigging a rod and reel. A limited number of fishing rods will be available to loan out during the event.  Anyone 17 and older must have a valid fishing license to fish.

FREE Back-to-School Clothing at our Leander and River Place Locations! We provide free, gently used school clothes & new socks/underwear to any LISD student.

Free Back to School Celebration
Saturday, August 13th | From 10 to 4 p.m. | East Communities YMCA, 5315 Ed Bluestein Boulevard

Join us for a free family event to help prepare for the school year! We’ll have music, food, games, and a limited number of free backpacks & school supplies.

Outside The City Limits: Summer Concert Series
Saturday, August 13th | From 6 to 8:30 p.m. | Vista Brewing, 13551 FM150, Driftwood

Second Saturdays all summer long, bring the crew for a FREE outdoor concert at Vista’s 21 acre Hill Country ranch.  Relax under the shady live oaks with live music, craft beer, local wines & ciders and farm to table fare. Family and dog friendly.

Family Day

Take advantage of the end of summer and join the UMLAUF for a free day of fun! Enjoy free family yoga, live music, crafts, and independent activities!

World Premier of How to Musical Theater
Sunday, August 14th | From 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. | Pease Park, 1100 Kingsbury Street

Summer Stock Austin and Pease Park Conservancy are excited to present the world premier of How To Musical Theater, written and created by Allen Robertson and Damon Brown! Join Summer Stock Austin for their first annual movie premiere and fundraiser and a 21st century homage to the great MGM musical comedies of the 30s full of song and dance numbers and a whole lot of heart.
