Say goodbye to August and hello September with some fun and FREE events around Austin! With the weather cooling off and college football season kicking off, this week is packed with plenty of FREE things to do.

This list contains a mix of family-friendly and adult focused Austin events.

Minecraft

Rockin’ Kids Club: Lego Free Build
Monday, August 29th | From 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. | Round Rock Public Library, 216 East Main Street, Round Rock

Build something amazing at the Round Rock Public Library! Sit down and get to building with tubs and tubs and tubs filled with the library’s giant collection of LEGO® bricks. This activity is recommended for kids ages 5-8 with a caregiver.

Barking Book Buddies
Tuesday, August 30th | From 4 to 5 p.m. | Howson Branch of Austin Public Library, 2500 Exposition Boulevard

Trained therapy dogs from Divine Canines waiting for kids to read to them! Recommended for ages 5 and up.

Top Shelf Comedy at Alamo Drafthouse
Tuesday, August 30th | From 7:30 to 9 p.m. | The Highball, 1200 South Lamar

Alamo Drafthouse and Cheesecake Comedy will be bringing free stand-up comedy to the South Lamar area. Martin Henn and Andre Ricks will be hosting as usual with a new lineup every week.

Afterschool Class: Show Me The Energy
Wednesday, August 31st | From 4 to 5 p.m. | Buda Public Library, 405 East Loop Street, Suite 100

Join the fun on Wednesdays at 4:00 pm for a class for children beginning August 31. Learn where food comes from, what a food web is, and how energy flows. Geared for children ages 7+. Children ages 5-6 welcome with an adult.

Move Night: Conan the Barbarian

Movie night at CMW! This film tells the story of a barbarian warrior named Conan (Arnold Schwarzenegger) who seeks vengeance for the death of his parents at the hands of Thulsa Doom (James Earl Jones), the leader of a freaky snake cult. “Do you want to live forever?”

Laguna Gloria Open Late
Thursday, September 1st | From 6 to 9 p.m. | Laguna Gloria, 3809 West 35th Street

All ages welcome! Experience Laguna Gloria with self-guided lantern tours of it under the stars during our weekly extended open hours! You’ll enter a magical world of illuminated sculptures, gently lit pathways, hooting owls, and moonlight reflected on the waves of Lake Austin.

Green Thumbs Up: How to Build a Raised Garden Bed
Thursday, September 1st | From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. | Round Rock Public Library, 216 East Main Street, Round Rock

The Williamson County Texas Master Gardener Association is presenting a free gardening program, Green Thumbs Up. Master Gardener Wayne Rhoden will talk about the advantages and benefits of raised beds and show examples of plants that do well in them.

Puppy Party with Austin Humane Society
Friday, September 2nd | From 9 to 11 a.m. | Jo’s Coffee, 1000 East 41st Street

Do you like dogs? Trick question: of course you do. Swing by Jo’s Red River for the Puppy Party from 9 – 11 AM. Pet (adoptable) puppies for FREE while you drink for a good cause because we’ll be donating 20% of our drink sales to the Austin Humane Society. Find your new best fur-ever friend!
