Top Free Austin Events Happening This Week: August 15 through August 19, 2022

All over Central Texas, the new school season is beginning, and we can’t wait! While this week may be jam packed with getting back into the school routine, there are still plenty of FREE things to do around town. From story times to FREE live music, here are some of this week’s best FREE events.

This list contains a mix of family-friendly and adult focused Austin events.

Books and Babies
Monday, August 15th | From 12:30 to 1 p.m. | Twin Oaks Branch, 1800 South Fifth Street

A lapsit Storytime program especially for non-walking babies 0-18 months and their caregivers.  Very short stories are interspersed with songs, rhymes, and fingerplays for babies and parents.  A brief playtime follows.

Game Night for Adults
Monday, August 15th | From 5 to 7 p.m. | Georgetown Public Library, 402 West 8th Street, Georgetown

Want to play a board or card game? Visit the Library every Monday from 5-7 p.m. for a game night for grown-ups! The Library has a stash of games on hand, but you are welcome to BYOG (bring your own game) if you would like!

Snack and Science
Tuesday, August 16th | From 4 to 5 p.m. | Austin Central Library, 710 West Cesar Chavez Street

This free six-week series for 6-9 year olds uses stories, songs, cooking, and science to teach children how to keep their bodies healthy and strong.

Summer Sunset Yoga Series
Tuesday, August 16th | From 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. | Indeed Tower in the Park, 200 West 6th Street

Each yoga class will be led by a YTX Yoga instructor and accompanied by a live musician or DJ. We hope to build a connection through the activation of yoga, music and community. This free event will be open to the public and catered to all levels of yoga experience.

Wednesday, August 17th | From 10:30 to 11 a.m. | Lake Travis Library, 1938 Lohmans Crossing

All ages are invited to our new Wednesday morning story time! Stop by to enjoy stories, fingerplays, and songs in the library’s meeting room.

Republic Square Park Fitness
Wednesday, August 17th | From 6 to 7:30 p.m. | Republic Square Park, 422 Guadalupe Street

Total body bootcamp for all fitness levels!  This *mostly* bodyweight bootcamp is unlike any workout class you’ve ever experienced before. Danielle (aka Coach Gert) uses her love for bodyweight movements, speed, agility and primal play to bring you a one-of-a-kind experience that focuses on building strength, power, speed, and mobility all while having the time of your life.

Bilingual: English and Spanish Storytime
Thursday, August 18th | From 9:30 to 10 a.m. | Pflugerville Public Library, 1008 West Pfluger Street, Pflugerville

Join us at the library for Bilingual Storytime filled with books, songs, and fun! This event is for children up to age 5 with an adult.

Live Music: JM Stevens
Thursday, August 18th | From 7 to 10 p.m. | Meanwhile Brewing, 3901 Promontory Point Drive

Enjoy a FREE concert performance from JM Stevens at Meanwhile’s outdoor stage.

Yonders Point: Under the Big Top
Friday, August 19th | From 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. | Yonder Point, 3300 East Palm Valley Drive, Round Rock

The FREE “Friday Fun Nights” at Yonders Point continues with “Under the Big Top” Circus fun. The event includes a “Movie in the Park” sing-a-long with “The Greatest Showman”, free cotton candy compliments of Ally Medical, kettle corn, Lonestar beverages and more family activities announced soon! Bring your blanket, chairs and picnic dinner and enjoy the event with your family! 

Movies in the Park: Cruella
Friday, August 19th | From 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. | Katherine Fleischer Park, 2106 Klattenhoff Drive

Wells Branch MUD presents our Movies in the Park Summer Series at Katherine Fleischer Park!  Bring your blankets and chairs and enjoy a fun filled night with your family and neighbors. Admission is free, movie to start at twilight. Concessions will be available for purchase. Rated PG-13.
