Top Free Austin Events Happening This Week: August 1 through August 5, 2022

Hello August! That July was a HOT one, and we are hoping that August brings us a few cooler nights, and maybe even some much-needed rain. While we wait for the temperatures to cool down, there are so many FREE things happening to kickstart your August before school starts back up again.

This list contains a mix of family-friendly and adult focused Austin events.

Grab and Go Craft
Monday, August 1st | From 9 to 4 p.m. | Cedar Park Library, 550 Discovery Boulevard, Cedar Park

Pick up a fun craft at the library to take home and enjoy! We want to see your creativity on display, so take a picture, post it to social media, and tag the Cedar Park Public Library! Crafts are limited and first come, first serve.

Movie Night: Lethal Weapon

A pair of mismatched LAPD detectives – Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson), a former Green Beret who has become suicidal following the death of his wife, and veteran officer and family man Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover) – work together as partners. Hot Summer Nights
Thursday, August 4th | From 7 to midnight | Red River Culture District, 912 Red River Street

FREE live music at multiple events for THREE days!!! Founded in 2017 as the RRCD’s first official district-wide event, Hot Summer Nights was originally created in an effort to provide additional revenue to district members, as well as local musicians and staff during the traditionally slower summer months. As a complement to the District’s other annual festival held in early January, Free Week, Hot Summer Nights has grown into one of the most beloved annual events in the “Live Music Capital of the World” while playing host to tens of thousands of attendees and providing a positive economic impact on the local community.

The Drop-In Ft. Think No Think W/ James Robinson

Free Week at Jones Center

Normally, The Jones Center is FREE on just Thursdays, but this week, you get the whole week! Take advantage of FREE WEEK, and experience their current exhibition, Tarek Atoui: The Whisperers, before it ends on August 14. The Whisperers is a mixed-media, multi-sensory experience that will challenge your notions of how sound can be perceived.
