Most of Bastrop State Park Reopens Friday


Bastrop State Park, 96% of which was damaged during the September wildfires, will open most areas beginning Friday, April 13, 2012. Repair work will continue along Park Road 1C and hiking trails and intermittent closures may occur over the next several months. As work progresses, additional trails and access will continue to open.

The following areas of the park are currently open:

  • Camping – Piney Hill (full hook-ups) & Deer Run (water only) Campgrounds 
  • Group Barracks – Dining Hall, dorm buildings, restroom 
  • Day Use Areas – All picnic areas including the playground area 
  • Hiking trails – 80% of trails inside of Park Road 1A will be open – As crews complete trail work, additional trails will open 
  • The Bastrop SP 18-Hole golf course, operated by Lost Pines Golf Club (512/321-2327 or 512/303-1368), is currently open 7-days a week. The Pro Shop has been recently renovated & a new parking lot is complete 

The following areas will open on April 13:

  • Cabins 
  • Camping – Copperas Creek (full hook-ups, water/electric) 
  • Park Road 1A (hiking, biking, wildlife viewing) 
  • Hiking Trails (Lost Pines Hiking trail) 
  • Park Road 1C to Alum Creek 

The following areas will remain closed until further notice:

  • Park Road 1C between Alum Creek Road and Cottletown Road 
  • Primitive Camping 
  • Scout Camping Area
