Erin BoyleYou should also consider consider speaking to a pet detective or buying her book/video. You can get her video along with the ebook directly from her website for $25. If you follow all her instructions and still don't find your cat then there is a money back guarantee on the book/video. She now lives in Atlanta but can still help. Many of our members have gotten their cat back by following Kim's advice. I have used her book to help find lost cats too. It will be money well spent. She is also offering 10% off to our group members. www.lostcatfinder.com/austinlostcatmembers

Sandy WyersAlso if you can find out where any stray cat feeders are in your neighborhood this may also be helpful so they can keep an eye out too. If you don’t know ask on Nextdoor and ask them to pm you because most ppl don’t want to make it public but they are usually comfortable with a private message.

Sandy WyersHave feeling neighbor probably found and is keeping it. Did you go door to door in neighborhood with your lost cat flyers? Easiest and fastest way to blanket area is just tape flyer to doors with a little bit of tape. Next, give flyers to the veterinarians in radius noted above and ask them if they’ve had any new pet patients matching description of your lost kitten and if they would consider implementing a new protocol at their practice to scan all their pet patients for microchips to better help find lost and stolen pets. If you emailed flyer to them sometimes it goes into their spam folder so they may not see it, or may forget to print it to post it in their office lobby.

Sandy WyersIf your cat is an indoor/outdoor cat something may have happened to prevent it from coming home. Go door to door asking your neighbors to check their garages, any outbuildings/sheds, RV's and work vans in case your cat got trapped inside. Any neighbors on vacation, or any neighbors move in or out, since your cat went missing? If so, he could be trapped in their house, garage or outbuilding. Also check any new construction of houses or abandoned buildings that your cat may be trapped in or hanging out at. Also check on any empty houses that are for sale/rent that it might have accidentally gotten trapped in while it was being shown or cleaned. Look for any unusual openings or holes around buildings that your cat might have accidentally fallen into or gotten stuck in. We recently had a cat on our site that was stuck down in a deep hole, that presented as a gap underneath a house, for a week during a cold snap before a neighbor found it, had seen lost cat posters in the neighborhood, rescued it and notified the owner. The neighboring house was 30 feet away! It's also very important to put up lost cat flyers and posters in case someone took your cat in thinking it was a homeless stray or abandoned. If they wondered or were chased farther than they are used too and became lost/displaced...these cats are almost always hiding nearby but may be spooked and hunkered down quietly. Leave a door, garage or window open for them to re enter if possible. Tell all your neighbors and put up neon poster board lost cat signs. Put some of your dirty cloths and some of their things outside so they can use them to smell their way home. Use a flashlight late at night when it’s more quiet and look for the reflective glowing eyes. Look in trees, on roofs, and under/in everything such as deep into bushes and shrubbery, underneath cars, and down into the street storm drains. Fear can make even the most tame cat act feral so some need to be trapped. We don't recommend putting their litter box or food outside because it can attract other cats and wildlife that might run off or harm your cat.

Update: 11/23/2017. Murphy is still not home for Thanksgiving. Please share on instagram or other sites if you can. I am very thankful for the folks who give their time for this group and this service.

Lost Elderly Poodle! Our 16-year old (or thereabouts) male (neutered) poodle left the yard yesterday, around 3 pm. We searched everywhere immediately. He has dementia and doesn’t move quickly, so it is not clear how he wandered off — there is a worry that he was taken by a critter, however there were 3 other dogs out who are larger/faster and would have alerted us. Has tags with our contact information. He is mostly blind, with cataracts, but has some sight. He can respond to his name, but gets agitated with the dementia, which has been getting worse lately (a good bit actually). He has two teeth (lower canines) but can sound very ferocious, especially when agitated. We searched all roads, green belt (multiple times) woods, etc as soon as he was discovered missing, which was fairly quickly. His name is MURPHY. Please contact Lisa (512-423-5704) or Scott (512-917-2768) Carruth. Great Hills, near Skyflower and Fireoak. Posted in next door, and contacted animal shelter. Thank you very much. Ellen MarcusI agree with Erin Boyle. Please walk your other dogs around the neighborhood and see if they lead you to him. While walking, talk to your dogs in a normal tone of voice, no shouting or calling. Also, put his bedding outside with dirty clothes of all family members, and a bowl of water. No food. Open the windows of your house now, while it's nice, to help him catch the scent of "home." We advise searching at night with a flashlight for missing cats, as the light from the flashlight will be reflected in their eyes. It might be worthwhile in this case, since he may be fairly close to home.

FOUND! Gray Female Cat (1/15/18 - Monday)

Cat has been hanging around the neighborhood South 6th St. (block from South Austin Rec Center) 78704. Brought her inside on Tuesday because of the weather and shes currently suffocating me by laying on my chest. Cat allergies in the home so cant keep her.

Gray, yellow eyes, female, really friendly, meows a lot, no tags, chills with the dog, 2 scars on back right rear (recent, looks partially shaven), definitely not a stray, not skittish at all, may be pregnant too.

Heading to check if shes chipped tomorrow. Anyone know the owner(s)? Send me a direct message.

Found: Gray Kitten, 1/15/18.

Windsor Park neighborhood in east Austin. Shes wondering where her family is, and shes very sweet.

Edit: no microchip, I had Austin Vet Care check last night. Found at Thames/Wheeles cross streets around 9pm. Shes clearly very comfortable with kids and dogs.

Sandy WyersThanks for doing these things. Most pets are still reunited with flyers and posters as there are still a lot of people not on social media or who access the Internet often especially when they come home from work. Is there any way you could hand out found cat flyers in your neighborhood? Fastest way is to just tape the flyer to peoples doors with a little bit of tape, also posting to cluster mailboxes if you have them in your neighborhood. If you take this kitten to the Austin Animal Center all they will do is put it through their SNR program where within less than 72 hours it will be transferred to the Austin Humane Society to be fixed, vaccinated, microchipped, and its left ear tipped, and then returned back to the area where it was found which would essentially be back your doorstep. They do not hold any unchipped cats for owner claiming or adoption.

Joe CurrivanI may have to get her adopted myself; I've done this before for a stray dog but that took months. Now that the weather is improving, I will get flyers put around the neighborhood. I would love to keep her but we already have 2 dogs, 1 cat, and 3 toddlers. 🙂

Some might not know her breed but may search for a dog they found by color looking for a matching lost dog such as ‘gray and white dog’ . This would be very helpful.

Erin BoyleInside only cats are almost always hiding nearby. Tell all your neighbors and put up neon poster board lost cat signs. Leave a window, garage or door open to your house if possible for them to reenter. It is very likely they will try to renter through the door they escaped from. Put some of your dirty cloths outside so they can use them to smell their way home. Look in trees, on roofs, bushes, storm drains and under/in everything. Use a flashlight late at night to look for eyes. Fear can make even the most tame cat act feral so some need to be trapped. It is also not uncommon for them to be missing for over a week before they come out of hiding. I don't recommend putting their litter box or food outside because it can attract other cats and wildlife that might run off or kill your cat.

If the chip is unregistered, or owner info is out of date, the owner can still be found so please take a pic of the microchip number on the scanner then let me know so I can direct you to one of our ALFP microchip detectives. **Very Important to file an Austin 311 'Found Animal Keep' report and upload a pic either online at austin.spotreporters.com/reports/new?service_id=5579f05447199e0be4000074 or via their app, or you can call it in. This info gets transferred to the Austin Animal Center (AAC) website database which is the first place owners will usually look for their lost pet. A new report must be submitted every 14 days to keep it visible on the AAC website. -If you haven't done so already please post to Nextdoor.com and select ALL neighborhoods, post on both Craigslist Lost & Found AND Pets sections, Pawboost.com, and helpinglostpets.com. -For those ppl not on social media or internet much please print and post found pet flyers around neighborhood such as cluster mailboxes, community rec centers, local coffee shops, pet stores, pet groomers, dog walkers etc. -Also consider emailing veterinarians up to a 2-5 mile radius your found pet flyer. You can use Yelp to help you with this and filter by distance. **Always ask for proof of ownership when someone comes forward to claim the pet such as adoption papers, vet records, pics of pet WITH the owner, a distinguishing characteristic that only you and the owner would know. Put this in all your posts as well that you will require proof of ownership. Austin Lost and Found Pets are here to help you so please let myself or an Admin know if you have any questions. Thank you for helping this sweet pet get back home! 😊🐾

Valerie HensonKimberly Keller is having trouble joining Nextdoor. Can someone post for her in the Highland of Avery Ranch II and the surrounding neighborhoods? She is on Avery Ranch Blvd, 78717. I helped her get the dog posted as found with Austin and Wilco, and also a post on Craig's List. The dog was scanned and had a unregistered microchip. She lost the number so I will go scan on Sunday.

I have a ?. I was on a walk today and I found 2 hamsters in a cage by the dumpster on charmers courts. The sun was hitting them directly and the had their tongues sticking out. I cannot keep them. Where can I take them.

Lacey MillsDefinitely take them to Austin Animal Center, don’t give them out to people. I rescue hamsters and 1. Cages like that are much too small. Two hamsters need a much bigger living space and 2. Hamsters require care and handling, and often dwarf hamsters can be territorial, and have been known to bite people who mishandle them. They can’t pass along illness, but it’s best to take them. I know Austin Guinea Pig Rescue will take them to be fostered from Austin animal center
