Stephanie MartensThanks for helping her! Please make sure they scan the entire body. Chips migrate, but not all vet clinics realize this, so chips are missed in scans. They have been found everywhere - noses, ears, feet, tails, bellies and genitals.

Heather UthoffI can understand why you are worried, your dog is super cute. Positive thinking. You don't know yet that they weren't being good people taking in what appeared to be a stray dog. I would make a post to your neighborhood group or Nextdoor and drive to your closest animal shelter tomorrow to check if someone brought him in. They might live on your street so put a missing sign in your yard that they will see next time they drive by. Talk to your nearest neighbors. Perhaps someone saw something.

Sarah LyonsThe south location doesn't open until noon on Saturday, I believe. The north location is open 24 hours. If you found the dog they will treat it without you having to pay and transfer it to Austin Animal Center when they open at 11AM today. They can also scan both dogs for microchips.

4 months ago   ·  1
Avatar

Sarah LyonsThey will NOT put him to sleep at the shelter unless his injuries are so severe that it is the only humane choice. The shelter takes in badly injured dogs all the time and provides them treatment. If they have complicated health problems, they are often pulled by rescues or APA.

Robyn KatzI'm not sure, but vet clinics that go out of business may have records still taken up by another vet. At least in law and medicine, if you close your business you still need to keep records safe (somewhere, usually with another Atty or Doctor) for 5 years (for law at least). You can also always call tvma to see if they have a record or another vet taking over the clients to find the original vet. That would need to wait until Monday though and it looks like they need help ASAP. I would follow the suggestions of above re taking to emergency vet listed above.

LOST CAT!! Please share.

Penelope AKA Peepers is a calico (white, orange, black) female American Short hair. She is an indoor cat and has never been outdoors. She was last seen in the condo community of Quail Creek off Rutland in north Austin.

She has been missing since 01-12-17. Uncertain of time of day that she got out of the house. She was confirmed to be seen last night around 7pm. She is friendly to people, but has never been around dogs. Please do not bring a dog to her, or she will run. Please do not shine a flashlight in her face that will also scare her, or make lots of noise. She has a quiet higher pitched meow.

DO NOT CHASE, OR CORNER! TAKE A PHOTO AND TEXT IT TO ME. This way I can confirm if its her or not.

Its doubtful shes eaten for a couple of days. And shes been in heavy rainfall for those two days (which is also new to her). She is most likely wet, hungry, cold and scared. She is NOT aggressive, but may be scared or skiddish as this is a very new experience for her and may run. Not sure if she will come when she is called.

I was almost able to catch her, and she got spooked and ran off. I have been out several times a day looking (in bushes and under cars) and have been handing out flyers. She may be hiding in a garage, a neighbors shed or porch.

She has not been microchipped and is not wearing a collar. She is a special needs kiddo as she has a medical condition that is chronic and keeps her from breathing normally. She has nasal polyps and will sound like she has difficulty getting air in. This is a distinct sign that its her. See the photo, as her nose is abnormally wider than most cats.

She is about two years old and has not been fixed. We are unable to fix her, as she must have a surgery to correct the sinus issues. She is unable to handle the anastethia of being spayed.

She may also be in heat right now. Which means that there may be males in the area. If you hear males calling or cat fighting in the area... There is the possibility that she could be around. This might help us find her. I know its a bad scenario... No judgement please.

If you have seen her, know where she is, have taken her in, or taken her to a shelter... please contact me ASAP! Please also let me know the direction she is traveling in, if shes on the move. And, what the location is. I can be reached on my cell by phone or text 512-619-0832. If calling, please leave a message if you cant catch me by phone. Im also available by email at kgarner1875@yahoo.com.

Kieve GarnerPossible sighting. Had a couple neighbors call in the complex I live in and said that she was potentially near the eastern boundary of the complex. One said there was a sighting of a calico and the other just said light-colored cat. I was out making flyers to distribute to the outline apartment complexes that border the property. I'm now home and sitting next to the gate and have tried calling... But no answer. She may be closer to the eastern boundary of the quail Creek community. But I'm not sure. One neighbor saw her cross the street and go through the fence into the creek area. Where there are there are some homeless camps. Thankfully one of the neighbors I spoke to said that they spoke to the homeless camps. But, if she crosses into the creek I don't know if she'll know to come back. If she is spotted how do you capture? I think that she's so scared that she is not necessarily catchable. Any suggestions?

I went ahead and downloaded the e-book with hopes that her tips can help me find her. It's supposed to rain really heavy tonight. Feeling extra concerned.

Els de JongSo sorry Kieve. Maybe the ebook will give you some ideas you haven't thought of. I have seen from her website that sometimes she needs a little downtime as I'm sure it is very emotional or maybe on vacation. I would put up signs anywhere their may have been a sighting. My friend's indoor kitty was hiding out somewhere during the week of freezing, rainy weather in Nov. And then returned home once the weather improved. Hopefully Peepers will find a safe place to hide during the rain if you haven't found her by then. Keep imagining her home. I will too. Lots of positive thoughts for uou and her for a quick homecoming.

Kieve GarnerCan anyone tell me if it is advantageous to look for a lost cat in the rain? Is their behavior to stay hidden? I was going to go out tonight with a friend and walked nearby properties as well as our complex around 10 p.m. tonight. But it's supposed to be really bad weather. Should we wait until the weather clears?

Erin BoyleI spent 2.5 hrs searching and canvassing the area. No sign of the cat but literally everyone I spoke to knew the cat was missing and I must have spoken to dozens. A few let me search patios but most said they would search themselves. I should get a t shirt and maybe people would be more likely to let me look. I gave the owner lots of tips and left at dark. When I was about 5 minutes away the owner got a call of a sighting. I raced back and saw her for a minute go under a car at 9514 which is not far from the owners place. I tried to keep eyes on her but she disappeared into the darkness. I got out and called softly with food but she didn't reappear. The owner will be home in an hour and try to lure her out. The person who saw her today said she saw her 3 times in the same area so she might stay in the area.

Kieve GarnerReal live sighting... twice more. But, she ran away. Learning what not to do... hoping to regain her trust. Very difficult seeing your kiddo run away from you. But, glad she is in the community. AND alive. Trying to figure out best next steps.

Kieve GarnerShe poked her head around the corner when I first got there. And then quickly ran away. I left a can of food in the play she seems to be frequenting and 9518 talk to the neighbor who has a hole in her fence. I was told she has two Dobermans, who will then attack her. So we looked on her patio together to make sure she wasn't there. And she said that she would be on the lookout for her as well. Just in case she happens to sneak in her patio.

Kieve GarnerIt's raining hard.... AGAIN. 🙁 I have found some allies in the condo community. We have figured out her travel pattern. So that's a plus. I have a map of the community and we'll set up traps in those areas. I will need to get 3 traps in addition to what we have already. So if anybody has any additional traps I could borrow that would be awesome... Otherwise I will need to contact the Humane Society to see if I can rent out some traps. I have access to two... And will need a total of 5. I will check those traps often. My neighbor, Susan, is setting up a trap in her garage since it's on the Travel route. And I will be setting up the second one either at my place or in another place on the Travel route. She's been sighted twice at another neighbor's place. I saw her twice last night... And again today. I did not Advance because it was going toward the street. I found a place in that line of travel that we had spotted her last night and sat and read out loud softly for about an hour. And then I did the same thing this morning.

Kieve GarnerHope so. Hopefully this doesn't hinder anything. Since it's been raining... I took a cardboard box. We have a few hanging around our place that we cut doors into and made a cat box City... so we have a few left over. I made a make shift shelter for her and wrapped it in a big black garbage bag... taping down the sides, so they don't flap around. Put some dirty socks inside too. I figure it's in one of her hiding spots and she could use a little comfort. Would that be bad to put in her other hiding spots too? Since it's somewhat chilly outside?

Els de JongAny news Kieve Garner?

Avatar

Kieve GarnerYes. But, she is still not home. I'd like to think it's in correlation with the makeshift shelter that I put out. I went to work at 10 a.m. this morning and I got a call from one of the Neighbors on her travel route. She said that she went to her back patio and there sat Peepers on a bench... I'm guessing thinking it was her house. She ran away through the hole in the fence when the neighbor came out.

3 days ago   ·  1
Avatar

Kieve GarnerI don't know if she'll come back on this travel route again knowing that the house wasn't hers? But, I'm hoping she will. I went ahead and set a trap for her where I had put the makeshift shelter. I am now sitting in my Element... Watching a trap from about 15 feet away. Was feeling excited this morning, but am feeling sad this evening. Lots of "what ifs" running through my mind. I had a sighting of her the last two nights with my own eyes... But not tonight. I'd like to know that she's still in this corridor.

3 days ago   ·  1
Avatar

Els de JongOoh - I hope she is!!! I know this is Soo hard and you are doing everything you can. She is probably still in the area - just hiding out. Where does the hole go? Still in the complex? I think the trap there is a good idea - hopefully she will return and she has to be hungry. Hang in there.

FOUND CAT!

I found this cat in The Villages of Sage Creek off Parmer and 35 last night. Hes pretty small, not neutured, and doesnt have a microchip. Apartment office say hes been hanging around for a while but hes definitely not feral since he took to me pretty fast. I posted in my apartments forum as well and I plan on putting up flyers soon. Hes incredibly friendly (he followed me all the way up to my third floor apartment) and does decently well with my cat.

If you have any information about who he might belong to, send me a message on here or call me at 936-443-2542

Erin BoyleInside only cats are almost always hiding nearby. Probably on your property or within 3-5 houses. Tell all your neighbors and put up big neon lost cat signs. (Black/white flyer posted on neon poster board works) Leave a window or door open to your house if possible for them to reenter. Put some of your dirty cloths outside so they can use them to smell their way home. Look under and in everything. Use a flashlight at night to look for eyes. Sometimes indoor only cats have to be trapped to catch them. Fear can make even the most tame cat act feral. Sometimes they won't come when called or even let someone see them. It can take 7-14 days for them to come out of hiding and look for food. If they don't come home in the next few days then I would seriously consider hiring a pet detective.

Amy SpileckiFirst of all, I'm sorry to hear about the cat. You can take the deceased cat to Austin Animal Center & at least the animal will be out of any further danger of more injuries. I'm not positive but they should be able to scan it for a microchip to find out if the cat had an owner? You can also call 311 to schedule a "Dead Animal Collection" but this can take up to 2 business days. Hope this helps & thank you for caring.
