BLUE IS LOST!
Blue was adopted from APA and we just got contacted by her adopter that she yanked the leash out of his hands and took off. She should be wearing a collar with a leash attached. She was lost from the adopters apartment complex at 1600 Wickersham Lane over in east Austin near Pleasant Valley. I just got off the phone with the adopter and he authorized me to put up his info if anybody is able to help search. He should be requesting to join the group and is out searching now. She is microchipped, it should be a found pets chip registered to APA

Sarah LyonsCan the adopter set up her crate, with clothes, and a feeding station somewhere outside the gated area of his apartment, away from a busy area, but in the direction she ran? That way if she gets close to home, she'll have a reason to stick around, even if she can't get in.

Stephanie Martens shared Planet Paws's video to the group: Austin Lost and Found Pets Page.

Planet Paws
I think that this is an important issue about which all pet owners should be educated. Because it could literally be the difference between life and death for your furry family member, it is an issue that is crucial for you to address with both your city council members and state representatives. I highly recommend speaking to our Animal Advisory Commission at city hall, as well.
www.austintexas.gov/aac

Annual inoculations are unnecessary, and a five pound Chihuahua should NEVER have to take the same dose as a 100 pound German Shepherd, but currently they do. That can change if we speak out against it.

There is an alternative to annual/additional vaccinations, however, that should become common practice worldwide as soon as possible. Titer testing measures the existence and level of antibodies to disease in blood. It is the only way to know if an animal is fully protected from rabies, parvo, etc. without causing your beloved pets unnecessary harm.

"It is especially useful when making a decision about vaccinating an animal with unknown vaccination history, or for determining if puppies have received immunity from vaccination.

Most experts believe strong titers are a more reliable indication of immunity than vaccination: tests show the actual immune response, not just the attempt to cause an immune response by vaccination."

Lindsay KinsolvingThis video is a good example of why I couldn't continue with the pre-vet route I spent 3 years on in college, and also SCIENCE. Titers indicate immunity - we can do it in people and we should be doing it in pets too. The way science these days for me falls is that if I had a child, I'd absolutely vaccinate everything. But for dogs there are so many other factors - I get them vaccinated but "up to date" all the time? Nope.

Stephanie MartensSo here's the thing, I am not suggesting that people stop getting the vaccinations that they are legally supposed to right now. What I'm suggesting is that they talk to their local and state representatives and make sure that the vaccination laws are changed. Vaccinating our pets is crucial, and it is absolutely illegal not to do so.

Shelly BrownI've always thought pets are way over vaccinated, but i never considered the weight of the animals, I didn't realize the dosing was the same! I skip most vaccines for my indoor only cats, My dog gets the rabies vaccine simply because he's out back chasing every squirrel he sees. I vaccinate only for things that are an actual risk..and even then I'm doubtful...as I am about vaccines for humans as well.

Lori SiosonOnly vaccinate once in a lifetime needed. Dr. Karen Becker has a good article on this. Pets don't need to be vaccinated for the same visus over and over. There is a whole lot of research on this. We haven't done this to our pets and won't.

Lisa MillnerIt is also worth mentioning that vaccinations are to be given to Healthy Pets! If you have an animal being treated for other illnesses, it is up to the vet to make the decision as to whether to continue to administer annual vaccines due to the risk of unnecessary complications. I recently ran into this situation with my Otto. He was on Vetoryl for Cushings Disease and 2 vet's, giving second opinions, both stated, they felt them to be not worth the risk when mixing other medications to treat serious disease. It has been a real problem to explain at times about the missing vaccines.

Erin BoyleInside only cats are almost always hiding nearby. Tell all your neighbors and put up neon poster board lost cat signs. Leave a window, garage or door open to your house if possible for them to reenter. Put some of your dirty cloths outside so they can use them to smell their way home. Look under and in everything. Use a flashlight at night to look for eyes. Fear can make even the most tame cat act feral so some need to be trapped. It is also not uncommon for them to be missing for over a week before they come out of hiding. I don't recommend putting their litter box or food outside because it can attract other cats and wildlife that might scare your cat

Kathy MuelkerHi Sherry - I'm guessing you don't live in the Austin area. Did someone who resides in Austin find the dog? I hope the dog can be returned to the jurisdiction where he was found (Austin/Travis County) so he can be reunited with his family. Once a pet is moved to another city, it's difficult for their owner to track them down. Here's hoping he has a microchip when he is scanned. Thanks for posting here!

Sherry Rutledge ClaytorI'm up North of Austin. Finder is too. Getting scan in am then heading to Austin with him. I'm really worried. Foster says he has not ate anything. Just wants to cuddle and when not being petted he goes to door and cries. I'm really hoping he's chipped. If not I'm taking him in to shelter. I'm a cat foster and have cats. I don't know what to do to help this dog. I do feel bad for taking him out of Austin, but at the same time driving him up here where safe was better than middle of the street. I spent all my free time searching through lost dog posts on every place i could find. No matches. As for tag. The foster called the vet and reported to me. If not chipped, i will call them back and see if they can contact the cat owner. Maybe they just put wrong tag on the dog. My big fear was him being put down. Looks like Austin is big on no kill and after reading i am comfortable taking him in and think it is his best chance of getting home. I don't think he has been missing long. No and i mean no street smarts. Just stood there looking at car coming toward him. Looks to be well fed and coat is in good shape. Jumped right into the car.

She is microchipped which is UTD.
Shes also on the smaller side for a cat.

Esp if youre in the SW Austin area in The Village of Western Oaks near Wagon Train and Convict Hill, please keep an eye out and check your sheds and garages.

This is not a lost and found post. But I have a big issue.....

My great Pyrenees has just turned 2 years old, and I've had him since he was about 6 weeks. I moved here from out of state and always had a yard. But now I live in an apartment, and it just isn't ideal for him. He's having a tough time adjusting to not being able to be outside as much as he would like. So now, he is destroying blinds, and urinating on the floor. He seems like he needs someone who is home 24/7. Or he needs a yard. I have tried a kennel, but he slobbers excessively when he is left in there and will bark until I get home to let him out. I do take him on walks, and let him spend time out on the balcony when I'm home. It has just gotten to the point where I can't even step out the door for an hour without him having severe separation issues. He already goes to work with me every day to try and prevent this. But it's the times that I can't exactly take him everywhere with me that is getting to me.

Don't let this ad fool you though, everyone who meets him falls in love with him instantly. He really is a great dog. But I am stuck in a 14 month lease, and I can't exactly afford to pay for doggy day care every day.I'm not sure exactly what else there is that I could try and do to help him. But I feel as though he is miserable.

Cadia UvalleMy older dog has the SAME issue. What we do now is we leave her on the patio. We feed her out there and her water bowls out there so she's used to chilling on the patio, and so when we leave she isn't aware that we're gone. It also helps to leash them to a corner so they can't jump over

Christian Alexander TharpIf I leashed him he would just chew through it. I left my window cracked in my dining room the other day, and he ended up forcing the window up and jumping through the screen. I have that same fear if I leave him on my balcony

Avatar

Cadia UvalleWell for our other dog what we do is we have her sleep and nap in her crate. So she sees it as a resting place now. She used to be anxious as well. Is your dog sleeping in the crate?

Michael CavazosI use a travel kennel and not a crate. Throw a blanket on sides and dog seems fine. I have a daushound who would pee all over the carpet ruin the couchs and just fuxk shit up basically. I implemented treats for good behavior and I also have a time schedule for him kennel hours and feeding time. They are like kids so they needs schedules and structure even sometime I mess up a day and my dog will now whine to remind me to let him out.

Caitlin Rose FosterYou can try contacting Austin Pets Alive - they have a PASS (positive alternative to shelter surrender) program, and can help you figure out ways to help and train your dog. Personally I also did training with Annie at Chloe's School for Dogs - she does very personalized training and helped my anxious dog. Good luck! Thank you for trying hard to make things work for you and your pup!

Tristen BonIf you do find him a new home, be very cautious about who he goes to. People who fight dogs use sites like these to get training dogs for fighting. They will often times send their wives or girlfriends to pick them up and act like they will go to a good home. I hope everything works out. That is such a difficult spot to be in.

Cadia UvalleYou can also get a free voucher if you go to one of Emancipets mobile vans. I went to get my dogs rabies shots free at a van at garrison park, and the lady offered me a free voucher to get our foster dog spayed at the Emancipet building. It's a sheet of paper, and you take it in with you to your appointment. So you won't have to worry about your dog being too big for the mobile clinics tables 🙂

Nikki RomualdoGetting him neutered sounds like #1. also crazy thought, have you considered getting another dog? Or maybe even just find someone else who has a dog whod be willing to let them hang at your place while you're gone and see how he does.

Stacy JørgensenAlong with training, there is doggie Prozac. It's not ideal to drug your dog, but might help while you are training him to reduce his separation anxiety. Also, I don't know that being in a house would really be any better. I wouldn't want to leave him outside when I wasn't home for fear he'd escape.

Robbie TreehornTry jogging. Seriously. Wear your dog out. Also, you probably aren't walking him enough. It's not about him getting a chance to urinate and poop. It's about him getting exercise and smelling the world. Walk him twice a day for 40 minutes at a time. When he gets a little older, you can scale that back a little. A tired dog is a happy dog. Most behavioral issues stem from a lack of exercise. Crates and drugs are poor substitutes for good old fashioned exercise

Erin BoyleYou should also consider hiring a pet detective too or buying her book/video. You can get her video along with the ebook directly from her website for only $25. If you follow all her instructions and still don't find your cat then there is a money back guarantee on the book/video. Many of our members have gotten their cat back by following Kim's advice. It will be money well spent. She is also offering 10% off her professional services to our group members so if you want to talk to her or get her help searching then it's discounted. www.lostcatfinder.com/austinlostcatmembers
