Listen to Your Mother Austin 2014

Austin has an amazing community of bloggers.  We meet for coffee, we set goals together over lunch, we answer each other’s questions on Facebook, we help out by guest posting on each other’s sites.  I am ever grateful for this wonderful group of writers.  They have helped me more times than I can count.  That is why I am thrilled to support three blogging friends who have taken the reins of this year’s local Listen to Your Mother show.

Free Fun in Austin is proud to sponsor the 4th annual Listen to Your Mother: Austin, which will take place at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center on the UT campus, Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 3 p.m. Tickets are on sale now via Eventbrite.

This unique event gives motherhood a microphone, through personal stories delivered onstage by 15 cast members, many of whom are also local bloggers. Every year there is a good mix of tales – some hilarious, others requiring tissues, many relatable, all interesting.
I am delighted to support such a great bunch of storytellers, many of whom have written about their family adventures on Free Fun in Austin. Allow me to share a sampling of their contributions to this site and you may realize, “Oh wow, I already know who that is!”

Leigh Ann Torres (Co-producer) – I really can’t say enough great things about Leigh Ann.  She pretty much saved Free Fun in Austin a few years ago, when I was on the brink of burnout.  She jumped in and helped out, writing a few posts a day (fun things like “Ten Million Easter Egg Hunts” that would have surely pushed me over the edge). She also wrote about local outings with her girls, including: LBJ Presidential Library and Museum, UT turtle pond, South Congressbat watchingcatching tadpoles at Walnut Creek Park, Texas State Cemetery, Red Bud Isle Dog Park, feeding ducks at the Arboretum, Cedar Park Farmers Market10 free things to do in downtown Austin, shady parks in and around Austin, and enclosed playgrounds around Austin.  I could go on and on because Leigh Ann has written hundreds of posts about enjoying Austin with kids.  She’s amazing!

Kristin Shaw (Co-producer) – Kristin was just named one of the 2014 BlogHer Voices of the Year, which is a pretty big deal. She is also regularly featured on Huffington Post and has written for Scary Mommy.  Her most recent post on Free Fun in Austin was about Mr. Will’s Sing-Alongs at Brilliant Sky Toys and Books.

Sarah Dille (Cast) – A local English teacher, Sarah was named Austin ISD High School Teacher of the Year last year! In her summers off, she explores Austin with her two small children and writes about some of her outings on Free Fun in Austin.  A few of her articles include splash pad reviews of Ricky Guerrero Park and Bailey Park and pool reviews of Little Stacy Pool and Reed Pool.

Carol Ramsey (Cast) – Carol loves to take her girls to enjoy live music, dance, art, and the great outdoors.  Last summer, Carol wrote about her favorite little kid hikes in Austin, including: Butler Park, Shoal Creek at Pease Park, Bull Creek at 360, Shoal Creek at Duncan Park, Bull Creek at Spicewood Springs Road, Shoal Creek at 31st Street, Bull Creek at Lakewood Drive and 360, Shoal Creek at 5th Street, Barton Creek at 360 Access, Bull Creek at Lakewood Drive, and Old Spicewood Springs Road.

How’s that for an overwhelming amount of links? These ladies truly have played an integral role in Free Fun in Austin.  They are great story tellers and wonderful cheerleaders for others who want to share their life experience with an audience.  Listen to Your Mother: Austin is a natural extension of this.  I hope to see you at the show!
