Keep Your New Year’s Fitness and Wellness Resolutions With These Free Austin Events

January is a fresh start and this year it’s the start of a new decade. Wellness and fitness are on the top of most of our resolutions. Sometimes that can come at a price, but it doesn’t always have to. We found some of the best FREE health and fitness events coming up in January to help kick start your resolutions and stick to them.

Free Yoga and Travel Chat

Learn to Meditate with Shambhala
January 8, 15, 22, 29 | at 6:30 p.m.| Austin Shambhala Meditation Center, 1702 South Fifth Street

Meditation instruction is available to anyone, free of charge. Shambhala offers introductory instruction to newcomers on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. Please check their calendar for links with more details to meditation instruction sessions. This free program is also offered on Sundays at 11 a.m.

The Willie Run is a creative three mile run that intersects the Butler Park, crosses Lady Bird Lake, and strolls through the entertainment district of downtown, passing by the statue of one of Austin’s most iconic singer-songwriters. Enjoy hot chocolate, Ruta Maya coffee, and other snacks when you finish. The Willie Love to Run will start and finish at the Austin American-Statesman. Run, walk, skip, or stroll at this free event.

Wholly Bagel Run

The Wholy Bagel Run is a creative three to five mile route that travels south into the historic Bouldin Creek Neighborhood and then returns along the vibrant South Lamar Entertainment District. South Lamar has exploded with new restaurants, boutiques and condos in recent years ever changing the landscape of this sleepy boulevard. This is your chance to scope out the boulevard and plan something new for your next outing. The route finishes with a merge onto the Butler Hike & Bike Trail at Lady Bird Lake and a scenic view of downtown. Enjoy coffee, hot chocolate, and other snacks when you finish. The Kriya Yoga Teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda

This talk will be presented by Brother Balananda, a long time monk of Self-Realization Fellowship monastic order. Paramahansa Yogananda’s teachings include a system of powerful meditation techniques as part of the science of Kriya Yoga. These techniques are available through the Self-Realization Fellowship Lessons. The talk is sponsored by Austin Meditation Group of Self-Realization Fellowship.
