Ice Skating Adventure at Barton Creek Resort

If you’re not quite ready to pack up Christmas and return to everyday life, Barton Creek Resort & Spa is still all decked out for the holidays.  Local residents are invited to visit the resort’s Holiday Lights & Ice exhibition through Monday, January 2, 2012.  Guests can enjoy the display of 200,000 twinkling lights plus ice skating in the 3,800 square foot ice rink in the Resort Pavilion.  The ice skating is not free, but a portion of proceeds will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Central & South Texas.

Barton Creek Resort & Spa invited my family to come give their ice skating rink a whirl last week.  Never one to turn down a local adventure, we were happy to head over to the resort for an afternoon of holiday fun.  We arrived in between ice skating sessions, so we spent our first hour strolling the resort grounds.  The kids played a little bit of mini golf (which, honestly, I’m not sure you’re supposed to do if you’re not staying at the resort, but they sure had fun!) and we explored the nature trail.

The trail was a big hit.  The scenery was gorgeous and during our walk we discovered creeks with stepping stones, a tee pee, a rustic shelter, and even a nice family of deer.

We had such a lovely time outdoors letting the kids roam free, I was almost sad to head indoors to the rink.  But the kids were so excited to get those ice skates on, there was no holding them back.

My kids had a blast ice skating – especially the five-year-old.  It was his first time on ice and he was mighty proud of himself once he figured out how to do it on his own.  I was pretty happy he did too, because at first, holding his hand was a bit like trying to skate with an octopus.

If you’d like to visit Holiday Lights & Ice, here’s what you need to know.  Guests can enjoy the skating rink with all-day skating passes, which start at $25 for children and $35 for adults. Individual skate sessions are also available starting at $16 for children and $21 for adults.  Be sure to call ahead for the session schedule.

Seasonal treats including hot chocolate and s’mores will be available for purchase.  For more information on Holiday Lights & Ice, please call 1-800-336-6158 or visit bartoncreek.com.

Disclosure: We went ice skating and stuffed our faces with s’mores as guests of Barton Creek Resort & Spa.  All opinions are my own. I was not compensated to share this post.
