How To Have The Most Austin Super Bowl Experience

There may not be a Texas team in the Super Bowl but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the big game like a true Texan. From players to foods to events and more, here’s how to have the most Austin Super Bowl experience.

Cheer Along With Fellow Fans

Kansas City Chiefs fans can mingle with other arrowheads at The Tavern (922 West 12th Street) while San Francisco 49ers fans gather at Oak Sports Bar (3715 South 1st Street).

Cheer For The Team With The Most Ties to Texas

Although the Chiefs only have one Longhorn on the roster, they do have Patrick Mahomes who hails from Tyler and is a grad of Texas Tech. That one Longhorn is Linebacker Alex Okafor (2009-12).

As for the team with the most Texas connections, it’s clearly the 49ers. Wide Receiver Marquise Goodwin (2009-12), Special Teams Coordinator Richard Hightower (2000-02), and Head Coach Kyle Shanahan (2001-02) are all UT grads. Plus, there’s Damontre Moore, who went to high school with Goodwin and then played against him for A&M.

Your own dogs playing football, too. Yes, yes this is the best thing ever and fun for the whole family. It all starts at the Humane Society on Anderson Lane and then moves to the Yard Bar for the live and local puppy bowl! More info here.

You can also watch the national puppy bowl on Sunday and support Austin Pets Alive! at Indian Roller. A portion of sales from a special drink will be donated to APA!. The event is 21+ and is happening from 3 to 6 p.m.

Of course, the commercials are another big part of the evening. In the past, many of the ads have had ties to the ATX. No such announcement has been made at time of publishing, but you can reminisce about the 2019 ads here.
