HONK!TX Festival of Community Street Bands

For the past three years, adult community marching bands from all over the country (and the world) have descended upon Austin the weekend after SXSW for one of the biggest, funnest, and most fantastic music festivals: HONK!TX. This community-based festival is completely grass-roots and volunteer-supported.

The 2014 HONK!TX festival will take place Friday, March 21st – Sunday, March 23rd in community spaces around the city.

On Saturday, bands will be performing non-stop in five performance spaces. The majority of HONK!TX bands will be playing twice throughout the day. You can see the schedule here.

On Sunday, families are invited to join the free parade in East Austin, which will start at noon. 300+ participants, including marching bands, local community groups, artists, and puppets, will weave throughout the neighborhood around Pan-Am Park (4th and Chicon St.). Families are invited to join the fun by filling the streets with joyful dancing, singing, and shouting along to the music! See the parade route here

Want to march with other kids? Before the parade, families are invited to join the 9th Street Parade!Club. Come dressed in rainbow costumes on Sunday and bring along shakers!  Line up for the parade is at 11. The parade rolls at noon. Details can be found here.

Following the parade, head to Pan-Am Park for a free musical revue featuring all the bands from the Honk!TX musical line-up.
