Bluebonnets make their annual appearance each March, but it always seems to sneak up on us. One minute, we’re bundling up to keep warm, and seemingly the next, we’re rushing to find the perfect patch of bluebonnets for family pictures.

A lush field of bluebonnets is the perfect backdrop for a family portrait session. Experienced Austin photographers have their go-to spots, and Siller is no exception. She divulged a few of her special spots to us, and we are here to share them with our readers.
Balcones District Park
This park is beautiful even without bluebonnets. Nature trails and waterfalls sit ready for your posing.

This park is well known among photographers for its diverse backdrops that include tall grasses, lawns, gnarly oak trees, and a secluded shallow creek. Wildflower seasons adds a special dimension to an already picturesque setting.

Old Settlers Park in Round Rock
This 645-acre park is best known for hosting athletic events like soccer matches and baseball games. Venture away from the ball fields, and you can find lush patches of bluebonnets during wildflower season.

You may have to dodge runners and cyclists, but it’ll be worth it. Mix your wildflowers with urban cityscapes for a truly Austin bluebonnet photo.

College campuses tend to be beautiful. The architecture and manicured grounds make for an idyllic setting. Add bluebonnets, and you’ll be amazed!

Pro tips for your bluebonnet session
Now that you have a few places to go for that perfect family picture, here are a few dos and don’ts Siller wants you to know before you pose:
- Do not stop on the side of a busy road. It is not safe, and you will get trouble.
- Do not pick or smush the flowers. The beauty for is everyone, and the flowers will bloom again next year if you do not disturb them.
- Keep an eye out for all the lovers of our beautiful bluebonnets including snakes, fire ants, and bees.
- Most important, have fun and get in the picture!
