Black Slate at Flamingo Cantina

Good reggae music can sometimes be hard to find, though Black Slate is one of the bands that represents the genre well. Formed in the late 1970’s in the UK, the group has toured the United Kingdom several times (along with a tour in Europe) before embarking on their first American tour in 2013. Black Slate is back in America this weekend as they rock the stage at Flamingo Cantina this Friday night. If you are fan of reggae great Bob Marley, Black Slate is a band that you want to pay attention to.

Denim on Denim at Austin Beer Garden Brewing Company

Mixing Duke Ellington and Hall and Oates is not something that you usually find in Austin, however local group Denim on Denim does just that, and their glistening tunes are a great introduction to the weekend as you settle in and kick back with a beer in hand. The band, which is a trio, perform together well with a chemistry that flows and feels natural when hearing them play together. While the Austin Beer Garden and Brewing Company is becoming a happenin’ place, we encourage you to head on down to the venue early to guarantee yourself a spot.

The Heavenly States at Austin Beer Garden Brewing Company

The Heavenly States are a San Francisco band that sounds like they march to the beat of their own drummer, with a simplistic sound that sounds enjoyable. On tracks such as “Pretty Life” we get a chance to see just how unique the band truly is while understanding why they won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. If you are up for taking a risk this weekend and experiencing something new, The Heavenly States will be a good band to watch.

Jerry Jeff Walker at ACL Live

Jerry Jeff Walker, one of country music’s great guitarists, will hit the stage of ACL Live on Saturday night to a packed house of enthusiastic fans. With an easy and relaxed playing style, it’s no mystery as to why Walker is one of the most celebrated musicians in Texas music, as his warm boy next door performance style makes everyone feel welcome and at home, and we are sure that you will feel the same if you catch his show this weekend.

El Ten Eleven at The Mohawk

El Ten Eleven, a post-rock band from Los Angeles, will be treating music fans at The Mohawk this weekend to their jam style songs that have a very likeable vibe to them. Great Peacock at Lambert’s

Great Peacock, a folk band from Nashville, Tennessee will start your weekend off right with their smooth and laidback folk and country tunes that invite you to sit and stay awhile. While the band has only been around a short time, we wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t blow up soon, as their songs feel like they could reach people on a universal level. If you are up for not only great food, but flavorful musical accompaniment, head on down to Lambert’s to check out the Great Peacock.

The Super Creeps at Spiderhouse

Our city certainly has its fair share of tribute bands, paying homage to everyone from Queen to The Grateful Dead, and today we are focusing on The Super Creeps, Austin’s David Bowie tribute band, as they rip the roof of downtown coffee joint Spider House. The lively and funky band not only gives a great live performance, but they do excellent covers of Bowie tunes that won’t disappoint music fans, let alone fans of Bowie himself. So grab some coffee and enjoy the evening.
