Help Keep Austin Green With Annual Spring Cleanups

As the colder days make way for the gorgeous weather that Austin is known for, it’s time for Austinites to get outside and enjoy their green spaces. One way to have fun in the sun and make those green spaces great for everyone is to volunteer for a spring cleanup event. As Courtney Clark from Giving City tells Good Day Austin, outdoor space cleanups are great volunteer activities for any group size and any age.

Opportunities abound, thanks to the 300 or so parks in and around Austin that could use a little help. So find some friends, dust off those work boots, and find an opportunity that is perfect for you. Here are a few noteworthy events that could use plenty of help:

March 5-Austin Parks Foundation’s annual It’s My Parks Day cleans up area parks and greenbelts with the help of a few thousand volunteers. To be one of those do-gooders, be sure to sign up ahead of time to help.

April 9-Keep Austin Beautiful’s Clean Sweep event covers over 31 zip codes and last year managed to pull 29 tons of trash from Austin’s green spaces. Bonus: after all of your hard work, there’s an afterparty! Learn more and sign up on their website.

For more ongoing opportunities with outdoor cleanups, as well as a variety of other volunteer opportunities throughout Austin, spend some time on Giving City’s thorough website.
