Listen to Your Mother

Free Fun in Austin is proud to sponsor the 5th annual Listen to Your Mother: Austin, which will take place at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center on the UT campus, Saturday, April 25, 2015 at two times: 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now via Eventbrite.

This unique event gives motherhood a microphone, through personal stories delivered onstage by 12 cast members, many of whom are also local bloggers. Every year there is a good mix of tales – some hilarious, others requiring tissues, many relatable, all interesting. Last year, I took my mother to the show and enjoyed hearing her laugh alongside me as cast members shared their vastly different motherhood experiences.

I am delighted to support Listen to Your Mother: Austin, which has brought some great talent to the spotlight in the last five years. I am also thrilled to support the producers of the show, both of whom are part of our Free Fun in Austin family!

Kristin Shaw (Co-producer) – Kristin is a freelance writer and blogger (TwoCannoli.com) who has been featured at Huffington Post, Washington Post, The Mid, and Scary Mommy.  Her most recent post for Free Fun in Austin was Journey to Mustang Island and Port Aransas. Kristin was a cast member of LTYM in 2013 with her reading about learning to trust a caretaker for her child when she went back to work after the birth of her son.

Leigh Ann Torres (Co-producer) – Leigh Ann is a superstar blogger, who swooped in to keep Free Fun in Austin afloat a few years ago, when I was in desperate need of help.  Her most recent post for Free Fun in Austin was about camping with her kids at Jim Hogg Park in Georgetown. Leigh Ann became part of the LTYM community with her 2012 reading about her premature twins and their stay in the NICU. She works for BlogHer/SheKnows and blogs at Genieinablog.com.

These ladies are active in the Austin blogging community, they are great storytellers, and they are cheerleaders for others who want to share their life experience with an audience.  Listen to Your Mother: Austin is a natural extension of this.  I hope to see you at the show!
