Giveaway: Kids’ Yoga Pass or Custom Workshop

Doing a yoga pose

For parents of young children, the idea of a child possessing a “calm and balanced mind” may seem like a pipe dream — a very, very appealing pipe dream. But at My Kids Yoga, young children learn to develop just that, along with a strong, fit body.

The unfortunate truth is, even little kids can suffer from the stress and anxiety that result from our over-scheduled, high-pressure lives. It’s a good thing, then, that yoga offers children the same positive benefits that it offers to adults. Practicing yoga can reduce kids’ stress and help them learn to relax, focus, respect others, and develop a positive self-image.

Best of all, when young children are introduced to yoga in a fun, positive and creative way, it helps them to develop their imaginations. They may not even realize they’re engaging in a practice that could lay the foundation for a lifetime of good physical, mental and spiritual health!

At My Kids Yoga, children are introduced to yoga through games and imaginative play. Classes are personalized based on the child’s or group’s specific needs, and can include facilitated discussion and journaling.

Now, My Kids Yoga would like to give one lucky Free Fun in Austin a special prize! The winner of our giveaway can choose from one of these two options:

…either…
  • A four-class pass to the upcoming Monthly Playshop, an hour-long workshop designed to give three- and four-year-olds a playful introduction to yoga through games and imaginative play (a $40 value). In this workshop, children transform into different animals, moving, breathing and communicating with each other. They will learn to observe themselves and their surroundings, and will also observe the feeling of taking deep inhales and exhales. Playshops will be held the first Saturday of each month from September through December, from 1–2 PM, at Toybrary Austin (7817 Rockwood Ln. #101, Austin 78757).

…or…

  • A custom-designed children’s yoga workshop and two free passes (a $60 value).
Instructor Shana Logue

Classes at My Kids Yoga are led by instructor Shana Logue, who has been practicing yoga for eleven years and teaching for six. In addition to the Monthly Playshop, My Kids Yoga offers other workshops for children, including Join the Circus, a workshop for four- and five-year-olds designed to introduce yoga through games and imaginative play; and Find Your Calm Voice, in which children explore the idea of a calm voice that rests within.

Catherine A. Morris is a writer as well as a once-and-future teacher, musician, jogger and triathlete living in southwest Austin, Texas. Yes, many of her former passions and pastimes have given way, at least for now, to her current, main passion and pastime: caring for her two toddlers, Pearl and Zephyr. Pearl and Zeph make Catherine and her husband laugh (and cry) on a daily basis, and give Catherine plenty of good reasons to seek out free, fun activities to keep everyone alive, engaged and happy from one moment to the next.
