Linares Learning and Training Center offers workshops in Austin for both children and adults who have difficulty with reading or math. The Linares method is based on neuropsychological research and methodologies developed by Hector Linares, a psychologist who specializes in learning and development disorders and has more than 10 years in the field. Linares workshops are for everyone — people who want to help children and adults with learning disabilities, as well as anyone looking to improve their own skills.
The next Linares workshop is coming up May 1–2, 2015. Mathematics Using Patterns and Clay Level 1 is designed for parents (or teachers) of preschool-aged children through third graders. This workshop addresses a primary problem with mathematics classes: that students are taught to memorize processes and formulas without understanding the meaning of the calculations. The Mathematics Using Patterns and Clay® method emphasizes conceptual understanding of mathematics without ignoring the importance of the memorization processes.
The key to the success of the workshop’s method lies in the use of special number patterns that facilitate the transition to the use of traditional pencil-and-paper operations into quick mental calculations.
