Does your child struggle with reading or math? How about you – would you like to improve your skills in those areas?

Linares Learning and Training Center offers workshops in Austin for both children and adults who have difficulty with reading or math.  Linares also invites parents and teachers to attend their workshops, to better equip them for teaching struggling children, in particular those with dyslexia and dyscalculia (difficulty in comprehending arithmetic and making mathematical calculations). In fact, anyone can attend a Linares workshop, if they are looking to improve their reading or math skills!

The Linares method is based on neuropsychological research and methodologies developed by Hector Linares, a psychologist who specializes in learning and development disorders and has more than 10 years in the field. Linares workshops are for everyone — people who want to help children and adults with learning disabilities, as well as anyone looking to improve their own skills.

WorkshopThe next Linares workshop is coming up May 1–2, 2015. Mathematics Using Patterns and Clay Level 1 is designed for parents (or teachers) of preschool-aged children through third graders. This workshop addresses a primary problem with mathematics classes: that students are taught to memorize processes and formulas without understanding the meaning of the calculations. The Mathematics Using Patterns and Clay® method emphasizes conceptual understanding of mathematics without ignoring the importance of the memorization processes.

The key to the success of the workshop’s method lies in the use of special number patterns that facilitate the transition to the use of traditional pencil-and-paper operations into quick mental calculations.

The May 1–2 workshop will take place at Homewood Austin — Arboretum (10925 Stonelake Blvd., Austin, TX 78759). Free Fun in Austin is giving away two free registrations for this workshop (each registration is good for up to two parents and is a $298 value)! Enter at the end of this post for your chance to win. But even if you don’t win, all Free Fun in Austin readers can save 20% on the workshop by using the code GUK-D20 at registration!

More about Mathematics Using Patterns and Clay®:

Our Mathematics Using Patterns and Clay® method utilizes a carefully planned gradual transitional shift from heavy use of concrete materials to more traditional paper and pencil calculations. Students learn more quickly and efficiently while gaining a deeper understanding of how numbers work. The use of this method has been the key in the treatment of dyscalculia in hundreds of children and adults.

matematicas_en_patronesThe methods used in Linares workshops have been widely accepted in different regions. Currently, teachers in private schools and learning centers in Mexico, El Salvador and Spain use the Linares® methodologies, with the goal of helping children and adults who have learning disabilities by focusing on areas needing reinforcement. By identifying individual strengths and using them to their fullest potential, students and their tutors can discover a new world of possibilities.

Linares is giving two lucky Free Fun in Austin readers FREE registration for their upcoming workshop for parents: Mathematics Using Patterns and Clay Level 1. Each workshop registration is good for up to two parents to attend and is a $298 value.
