Giveaway: Birthday Party at Hop N Happy

If you’re on the lookout for some air conditioned entertainment, North Austin’s brand new “play headquarters,” Hop N Happy, is the place to be!  Hop N Happy opened its doors this past Saturday and now daily invites active young bouncers and climbers to come wear themselves out!  I took my energetic crew yesterday morning and they had a blast trying all the shiny, new play equipment.

Located on Anderson Mill Road between Highway 183 and Ranch Road 620, Hop N Happy opened in the space that used to house Extreme Fun.  The layout might look familiar, but the facility has been completely renovated.  The owners of Hop N Happy, local parents Wes and Rebecca Gunn, gutted the space before laying new carpet and tile, painting and adding colorful decor, and purchasing all new furniture. The 9,000-square-foot space is so bright and clean, and is now filled with six brand new indoor play center certified inflatables!

Ideal for children ages 2 – 10, Hop N Happy offers a nice variety of play equipment. Kids can bounce to their hearts’ content in the Funtopia playground, have a friendly race in the obstacle course, fly down the 20’ double slide, and perfect their aim on the sports shootout.

Bigger kids will migrate toward the three huge inflatables with slides and rock climbing walls. The preschool set will enjoy exploring two slightly smaller inflatables, where only children age 5 and under are allowed to play. All ages will have fun throwing balls, jumping in the foam pit, and flying down a slide built into the hillside.

If you remember the ol’ lava pit from Extreme Fun, you’ll be glad to hear that Hop N Happy’s is greatly improved. Padding has been added for safety and steps on the inside of the pit make it easier to exit.

Best of all, the old foam was thrown out and replaced with 2250 new covered balls called Rounders. Rounders are conical foam shapes that provide a softer, safer landing.  They are also pretty great for stacking. My six-year-old enjoyed building towers in the pit.  (My one-year-old preferred throwing the Rounders down the hill and slide.)

While the kids play, parents can lounge in the Adult Party Room with the Longhorn Network and free Wi-Fi. Hop N Happy will soon be adding seating in the main play area as well.

It’s a nice size space – big enough to keep kids moving, but small enough that you can monitor them with minimal effort. As a parent who prefers sitting to chasing, I appreciated the wide-open layout that allowed me to see all of the inflatables at once.

Two more parent-friendly perks that Hop N Happy offers: You can buy snacks and drinks from the front desk, or you can bring your own! Plus, a cozy Mother’s Room is furnished with rocking chairs and changing tables, for taking care of baby.

Hop N Happy welcomes kids for Open Bounce seven days a week, from open to close. (See below for business hours.) Just don’t forget your socks!
