Giveaway: After School Arts Enrichment Program

Creative Action wants to give one lucky Free Fun in Austin reader a FREE spot in
a one-day class in the current session of after school arts enrichment classes at the Center for Creative Action (a $250 value). A different class is offered Monday through Friday. Choose a class in Film, Acting, Music, Visual Art or Community Service!

Creative Action After School classes offer out of school enrichment for ages 5 to 10 years. Students can explore their creativity while making new friends and learning more about the world around them.

Creative Action after school classes are designed to engage students in hands-on activities that deepen connections to lessons learned in the classroom.

The goal of the after school program is to increase children’s literacy levels and knowledge of the arts, to help them build new skills and concepts to be put into practice in problem-solving, to allow them to express themselves freely, and to make them feel part of a community.

During Creative Action After School, students participate in a variety of fun, arts-based creativity classes as well as receiving homework help, outdoor play and snack time.

Professional Teaching Artists lead the classes, and families receive monthly e-newsletters with photos and updates from the program. At least twice a year, family and friends are invited to “program sharings” — unique events where students share and celebrate their projects. Creative Action After School develops a “4C student” who is a Creative Artist, Courageous Ally, Critical Thinker and Confident Leader.

Fridays feature Creativity in Action! Students work in teams to design and implement special projects using art, creativity and imagination to improve the world around them. Current examples include a “Recycla-bot” robot that eats your recyclables, a school-wide musical parade, and community murals.

Each single class is offered for $250 per semester session for one day a week. Parents may also choose to enroll in the 5-day a week program for $250 per month. REGISTER NOW >>

A little more about Creative Action:

The brand-new Center for Creative Action provides a community resource for quality creative learning opportunities. At the Center, children, teens and senior citizens can learn visual art, film, dance, writing and acting.

The mission of Creative Action is to spark and support the academic, social and emotional development of young people. Through interactive classroom performances, after-school arts residencies and community-based programs, Creative Action’s team of professional Teaching Artists inspire youth to be creative artists, courageous allies, critical thinkers and confident leaders in their community.

The Creative Action philosophy is that learning should be fun, colorful, engaging, hands-on and experiential. Education is a dynamic and reciprocal process where everyone, including the teacher, is learning together, and ideas and discussion flourish as we collectively develop knowledge.

At Creative Action, art is deemed essential to personal development in the 21st Century. The arts require imagination, vision, critical thinking and determination. Thus, engaging in the arts gives us opportunities to shape our own identities, empathize and connect with others, grow a deep interest in the world around us, and contribute to making the world a better place.
