Growing Up Austin - Austin Kids Hike - Bull Creek

This post is part of the FREE Hike of the Week series, brought to you by GrowingUpAustin.com. There are a thousand places to hike in Austin on any given day, most of which are always free, but here is a handy reminder about one favorite. Visit AustinKidsHike.com for more kid-friendly hikes and for tips on hiking with kids. A summer tip – early morning and after dinner are the best times to beat the heat!

The section of Spicewood Springs Road just west of 360 feels like you are far away from town, on a secluded country road. The road has several gated low water crossings, so when the Bull Creek water level is high, you can’t pass through. This keeps development to a minimum, with no Starbucks or 7-Elevens to be found. It is nice, to have at least one place in Austin where this is true! St. Edwards park is here, with parking and trail access. There can be elevation on the trails, so one adult per toddler is best.

Stroller friendly: no

Restrooms: no

Water: yes, good for wading and swimming in spots
