Archives in ATXion: The Texas Picture Show

In celebration of Texas Archives Month, the Texas State Library and Archives Commission is partnering with the Texas Archive of the Moving Image to host a FREE, after-hours archival film screening on the east lawn of the Texas State Capitol Building from 6:30 8:30 pm. Movie goers are invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets to complete the experience. Prior to the screening, entertainment will be provided by Grammy Award Winning Texas Western Swing Artist Jason Roberts (Asleep at the Wheel) with the screening itself kicking off after sundown at 7:30 pm. Fright Night at Jo’s SoCo: Evil Dead

Start getting into the Halloween spirit! This week’s feature at Jo’s is Evil Dead and they’ll have drink specials and popcorn available. Bring a chair because seating is limited. Viva la Vida 32nd Annual Festival & Parade Celebrating Day of the Dead

This year, Austin’s largest and longest-running Day of the Dead event features a grand procession, artist vendors, live music, a grand sugar skull piñata float by local piñata artisans Monica and Sergio Lejarazu, an exhibition with community altars inside the Museum, and educational programs. Attendees can also enjoy food from Chi’Lantro and Veracruz All Natural, hands-on art activities, and special performances by Gina Chavez, DJ Chorizo Funk, Tiarra Girls, and more! 9th Annual Murder, Mayhem, and Misadventure Walking Tour

Take a walking tour with Save Austin’s Cemeteries! Hear historians and actors shed new light on Austin’s history with chilling tales of 19th and 20th century untimely deaths! Tours start at 10 am and run every 30 minutes. Each tour lasts about an hour. Comfortable closed-toe shoes are recommended for uneven terrain. FREE Halloween Cab Rides

This Halloween, Sutliff & Stout, PLLC, a personal injury law firm in Austin, is offering FREE cab rides to prevent help prevent DWI.
