Free Date Nights in Austin (Feb 12-15, 2015)


Thursday, February 12

Steve Earle is a passionate alt-country singer/songwriter with a reputation for being a rebel. Taking inspiration from Austin’s own legend Townes Van Zandt, he has proclaimed, “Townes is the greatest songwriter that ever lived and I’ll stand on Bob Dylan’s coffee table in my cowboy boots and tell him that myself.” The in-store starts at 5pm and is FREE, with refreshments provided by Shiner. Jane Rose and the Deadend Boys at Lucky Lounge

Nominated for the 2015 Annual Ameripolitan Music Awards, this hillbilly rock ‘n’ roll band is fronted by powerhouse Jane Rose. The Nashville-based band tours frequent through Austin and will be joined by the Phantom Shakers. This FREE show starts at 8pm. (Lucky Lounge, 209A West 5th, Austin)

Love wine? Then you must check out the Hill Country Galleria’s Wine Walk! Start at Twin Liquors to pick up a map to guide you on the wine walk. Keep your map with you as your ticket for each wine walk stop. Hill Country Galleria shopping bags filled with exclusive offers will also be available to Wine Walk participants. Event is 5-9pm. Soul Thursdays at The Blackheart with ROXY ROCA and Mrs. Glass. This dynamite duo of bands is reuniting at the Blackheart this Thursday and serving up lots of booty-shaking and feel good soul starting at 9pm. (The Blackheart, 86 Rainey Street, Austin)

Friday, February 13

Dittmar’s 2nd annual “escape” will feature a FREE screening of 50 First Dates at the park at 7:45pm. The ages are 18+ and popcorn will be provided. If you need help with childcare that night, they are also providing activities for children 5-11 years old from 6-10pm. The fee is $26/child for residents. Austin’s art collective, SPRATX, will celebrate its one year anniversary at The Gallery from 7-10pm. Come out and enjoy all the creative minds that make Austin so unique. There will be live music, FREE drinks, and SPRATX tattoos by Jacob Ladd. (The Gallery, 501 Pedernales Street, Austin)

SHED barbershop is celebrating all things old fashioned with a BYOV (Bring Your Own Vinyl) party this Friday from 7:30-10pm. There will be complimentary old fashioneds provided by SHED and complimentary beer provided by Austin Beer Works. (SHED Barbershop, 2210 South 1st Street, Austin)

John Evans Band will headline Hill’s Cafe this Friday. This rockabilly band has a loyal fanbase and has been playing honky tonks in Texas for years. This set will be acoustic and indoors. FREE music from 7-9pm. (Hill’s Cafe, 4700 South Congress Ave, Austin)

Saturday, February 14

Harvest Thieves, Ruby Fray, and Madisons at The Blackheart

A great line-up of breakout bands and up-and-comers for a Valentine’s date (or anti-Valentine’s date!) The FREE show starts at 9:45pm with Christy Hays, 10:45pm Madisons, 11:45pm Ruby Fray, and Harvest Thieves headlining at 12:45am. (The Blackheart, 86 Rainey Street, Austin)

Get in the Mardi Gras spirit with a special performance by cajun dance band Cajun Aces at Central Market North Lamar from 6:30-9pm. This is part one of their upcoming Mardi Gras celebration. (Central Market North Lamar, 4001 North Lamar Blvd, Austin)

SURE THING Comedy Show

SURE THING comedy show at the original Austin Java starts at 8pm. Various comedians are performing and the show is hosted by Duncan Carson and Brendan K. O’Grady. Print Fired: An Exhibition of Intaglio on Clay

E4 Gallery will be holding FREE demonstrations in unique printmaking techniques every Sunday this month. This Sunday’s demonstration will feature Intaglio on Clay with Mary Fischer from noon-2pm. Movie Night at TOMS

Head on over to TOMS on SoCo for a 7pm screening of the Austin classic, Dazed and Confused. The movie is FREE and the weather will be great for a night out under the stars. (TOMS, 1401 South Congress, Austin)
