Russian Folk Festival at The Russian House

Enjoy an authentic, cultural presentation of Russian Folk Dances, Balalaika Music,and Russian Folk Songs/Chastushki all equally represented throughout the performance in authentic Russian style, language and costumes. The festival presents professional musicians Sergey Vashchenko and dancer Katia Trusova. The festival includes FREE dance class and karaoke! From 7-9pm there will be a Balalaika Performance by Sergey from The Flying Balalaika Brothers. Then from 9pm-11pm, enjoy folk dance performances, Russian poems, Russian Chastushki, Folk Dance class, Chorovod, and Folk Music karaoke. (The Russian House, 307 East 5th Street, Austin)

Unplugged at the Grove: Marcia Ball, Carolyn Wonderland, and Shelley King

This week’s featured musician for KGSR’s Unplugged at the Grove is Marcia Ball, Carolyn Wonderland, and Shelley King, starting at 8pm. This is one of Austin’s longest running FREE concert series. Friday Night Get Down with DJ Chicken George at Dozen Street

A big anniversary requires a big guest and they’ve got none other than the legendary DJ Chicken George spinning all vinyl 45 and 12″ grooves! Jeff has DJ’d all over the world and has shared the stage with artists including Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Grandmaster Flash, Biz Markie, DJ Craze, MF Doom, The Neptunes, The Roots, Talib Kweli, DJ Jazzy Jeff and more. They’ll have photographers, a videographer, an extended Sample Knowledge Contest, their monthly vinyl giveaway, and a classic video game contest where you can win some serious $$$. The Deer In-Store Performance at Waterloo Records

Marshall Moon at Oskar Blues Brewery

A Texas native, Marshall Moon has been a music fan all his life. He grew up in a cove on Lake Travis, and spent most of his life listening to all kinds of music. Influenced by the songwriting of The Beatles; SRV’s guitar; Dr. Dre’s beats; Sigur Ros’s “epicness”, he began writing songs of his own in high school. This FREE show starts at 6pm. Julia Magness at Antone’s

A native Austinite, Julia is a member of The Original Bells of Joy gospel group. Julia is also a songwriter and blues singer. She represented Austin in 2012 at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Her band plays a mixture of blues, gospel, rockabilly, and jazz. They are upbeat, and great to dance to! Laugh, Dammit! at The Highball

Austin’s funniest live game show! Comics Vanessa Gonzalez, Joe Hafkey and Tai Ngyuen try to make contestants laugh – if they can resist, they win prizes! Laugh, Dammit! is inspired by the classic TV game show “Make Me Laugh!” Host David James drives a rotating panel of talented comics as they do everything they can to make contestants laugh. Contestants are snapped up from the live audience. The show’s Vanna is Avery Moore, and she is joined by announcer Duncan Carson.
