FREE Date Nights in Austin: October 12-15, 2017


This week’s FREE Date Nights in Austin includes Science Under the Stars, Shakespeare performances, an Oktoberfest celebration, and a screening of the Halloween movie Hocus Pocus.

Thursday, October 12

Science Under the Stars

Science Under the Stars is a FREE monthly public outreach lecture series. This month, EEB graduate student Chi-Chun Andy Fang will talk about animal development and reproduction, as well as the role of gene regulation in these two processes. Eastside Pop Up Nights

It’s a SPECIAL Dia De Los Muertos / Halloween Edition of Eastside Pop Up Nights. Head out for a night of drinking, dancing, and shopping under the beautiful Texas sky. Get there early and enjoy one of the best happy hours around. Then stay late and dance the night away with ulovei. Hotel Vegas Concession Stand will be open and serving up tasty bites. Shakespeare at the Market: Romeo & Juliet

Present Company’s 4th annual Shakespeare at the Market, Romeo & Juliet, opens October 13 and runs through the 29. Seating for the event starts at 6:30 p.m. with the performance starting at 7:00 p.m. on the rooftop of the downtown Austin flagship Whole Foods Market. Community Cinema: Hocus Pocus

Mobile Loaves & Fishes invites you to a FREE movie night at the Community First! Village. Grab chairs and a blanket, bring family and friends, and enjoy this special screening of Hocus Pocus. Attend as early as 7:00 p.m. to explore Community First! Village, pick your spot, and enjoy your favorite movie snacks. Hot dogs, milkshakes, popcorn, candy, and drinks will be available for purchase (cash preferred). Burnet Oktoberfest featuring Rick Trevino

A full day of events are happening at Oktoberfest in Burnet, starting with a 5K Color Run at 8 a.m. Art demos, a classic car show, food and merchandise vendors, and much more will be available throughout the day as well as live music from 1:00 p.m. through 9:00 p.m. Headliner Rick Trevino will play at 7:00 p.m. The event is FREE and you can access the full schedule of activities here. Star Wars Reads Day

Star Wars Reads Day is an annual celebration of all things Star Wars and the joy of reading. Head over to Titan Moon Comics for drawing and coloring contests, an all ages costume contest and a Make-Your-Own-Lightsaber kids craft. Artist Richard Seelig will also be in the store selling prints and doing a live drawing to be raffled off. This event is FREE and is happening from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Titan Moon Comics, 1540 Cyprus Creek Rd., Cedar Park.

Saturday Night Concert Series at Hill Country Galleria

Sit back, relax, and enjoy this FREE concert happening from 7 – 9:00 p.m. Arrive early to shop and dine at Hill Country Galleria retailers and even get your meal delivered straight to your seat in the Central Plaza!  Swag bags filled with fun items and discounts will be available throughout the event. Faculty Concert: Hai Zheng-Olefsky and Kiyoshi Tamagawa

Sarofim School of Fine Arts’ Music Department is proud to present Southwestern University faculty members cellist, Hai Zheng-Olefsky and pianist, Kiyoshi Tamagwa. Chihuahua Day

In honor of Frida Kahlo’s favorite furry friend, Mexic-Arte Museum will be hosting a FREE workshop series centered around chihuahuas from 1 – 4:00 p.m. As part of the Museum’s Artist in Residence program, Monica and Sergio Lejarazu from Jumpolin Piñatas will lead a final workshop session with Museum visitors, teaching them how to make their very own chihuahuas. Visitors are encouraged to bring back their creations as part of the grand procession at Viva la Vida Festival and Parade on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017. Mexic-Arte Museum, 419 Congress Ave., Austin.
