Free Alternative School Fair Returns to the Whole Foods Rooftop Plaza

Free Fun in Austin is proud to once again co-sponsor the 5th Annual Austin Alternative School Fair, returning to the Whole Foods Market downtown rooftop plaza on February 25, 2017! If you are interested in exploring the many different learning environments available around Austin, this is the fair for you! Representatives from local schools and enrichment programs ranging from pre-K to high school will be on-hand with interactive activities to enjoy, making the fair an engaging event the whole family will enjoy.

Head to the rooftop plaza of the Whole Foods Market in downtown Austin on Saturday, February 25, 2017, from 11a.m. to 2 p.m., to enjoy the free Alternative School Fair for families with kids of all ages. The annual event, organized by the nonprofit Education Transformation Alliance, brings together a select group of highly innovative educators to share information about the extraordinary number and variety of learning options in Austin.

Participants in the Alternative School Fair include schools, enrichment programs, and educational services from throughout the Austin metro area. Hands-on activities, including stop-motion animation, acroyoga, sensory experiences, crafts, and more will keep teens and younger kids entertained and engaged while parents talk with educators about their unique offerings.

Healthy food and drinks will be available for sale from Whole Foods.

Teri Sperry of Alt Ed Austin, another of the fair’s co-sponsors, says, “I look forward to this event every year because it’s a chance to talk with families in a really fun, relaxed setting. We all have our information tables and activity booths spread out on the plaza near the playground, and that makes it easy for parents and kids to learn about a lot of unusual programs—from pre-K all the way through high school—in a short time. I always end up feeling so proud when I see what a warm, caring, and creative community of educators we have in Austin. We’re lucky, and more important, our kids are lucky.”

Participating schools, enrichment programs, and educational services include the following (with more expected to join in February):

  • Abrome (K–12th)
  • AHB Community School (K–8th)
  • Alt Ed Austin (educational consulting for families)
  • Clearview Sudbury School (K–12th)
