On Saturday, March 7, 2015, the LBJ Presidential Library will be offering free admission as part of its participation in The University of Texas at Austin’s Explore UT day.

Schedule of Activities

Liberty! Equality! And Fireworks!
11:00 – 11:40 a.m., LBJ Auditorium
Watch a Pollyanna Theater Company performance of the original play by Gregory Perrin exploring the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. Set in a history museum, the play’s characters experience key elements of history when iconic images come to life.

11 Super Amazing Career Opportunities Found in Museums
1:00-2:40 p.m., 2nd floor classrooms
If you enjoy digging around in other people’s stuff, perhaps you may a perfect candidate for a career working in a museum. Discover some of the surprisingly fun and cool jobs people have at the LBJ Library.

Exhibits On Display
11:00 a.m. – 4:40 p.m.

LBJ’s Presidency
This exhibit explores both domestic and foreign affairs during LBJ’s administration in the 1960s. The exhibit space will guide you through LBJ’s presidency and legacy through images, artifacts, and interactive exhibits.

Life In The White House
Step into a replica of the Oval Office, enjoy the view from Lady Bird Johnson’s office, and learn about the Johnson family.

Lyndon Baines Johnson: His Life and Times
This exhibit will introduce you to President Johnson with a time line of his life. You can pick up a telephone and hear LBJ making decisions, explore LBJ’s telephone conversations, and get some laughs with Animatronic LBJ’s storytelling.

March to Freedom
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Selma-to-Montgomery marches, this photography exhibit showcases the photos taken by Spider Martin on that historic day. Also included are photos and video from the Library’s 2014 Civil Rights Summit.

Parking


The university will be a center of activity on Explore UT weekend, but there are many places to park free of charge in and around the campus.

Free parking is available in the following UT parking garages:

  • San Jacinto Garage (SJG) San Jacinto Boulevard north of 24th Street (Free parking until 4:30 p.m.).
  • Twenty Seventh Street Garage (TSG) University Avenue and 27th Street.
  • Speedway Garage (SWG) Speedway and 27th Streets.
  • AT&T Conference Center Garage (ATT) West 20th Street.
  • Brazos Garage (BRG) MLK Boulevard and Brazos Street.

Near the Library, the Manor Garage is also available, however, it is on a self-pay, space available basis.

Note: The LBJ Library’s regular parking lots (#38 and #39) will be unavailable during Explore UT.
