When Kristin Stephens was looking to jump into the catering business back in 2000, she noticed something about the Austin market. She found that many of her would-be catering competitors were dynamite with their food but were not holding up the same standard with their design and event planning. She also observed event planners serving lackluster food.
With all the things she didn’t see being done with excellence, she saw an opportunity for herself, so she opened Austin Catering to deliver top-notch food and stellar event planning.
The City of Austin has temporarily banned public gatherings. Please stay home. The Austin.com calendar is only for live digital events at this time.
Stephens is the director of catering, so she holds down all aspects of the food, and senior event planner Susan Higgins takes care of the event planning. Both have their sides covered which makes for a special experience.
“At Austin Catering, it’s important to us to not only provide our clients with amazing food but also with incredible service,” Stephens told Austin.com. “We believe catering should provide an experience, and that’s what we aim to deliver with creativity, attention to detail, and thoughtfully customized menus at every event. We love working with our clients to develop menus that suit not only the event they are planning but their story or style as a whole.”
Their process centers around communication. Stephens and Higgins listen to truly understand a client’s vision and expectations for an event. And once the big day has arrived, Austin Catering’s staff stays locked in with laser focus on all of the details.
They have balanced chef-focused and event-focused catering “by assembling an amazing team of professionals whose strengths complement each other. Our culinary team’s passion for food along with our event planning team’s knack for logistical planning and creative presentation come together to create an amazing experience for our clients,” Stephens said.
Austin Catering’s many repeat and high-profile clients know just how good Austin Catering is. “We have several corporate clients who host events all across the country, and they tell us it’s the level of creativity we bring to our events and the quality of our food that sets us apart,” Stephens said. “I also feel the abundance of talent in Austin keeps us always striving to raise the bar.”
Some pretty big publications have taken notice, too. They’ve been named The Knot’s 2016 “Best of Weddings,” Wedding Wire’s 2016 “Couple’s Choice Award,” Austin Wedding Day’s 2016 “Best of Austin Wedding Style,” and have a membership in Style Me Pretty’s Little Black Book.
So if you choose Austin Catering for your next event, what does Stephens want you to tell your friends after the event? “Use Austin Catering. They won’t fail you! I won’t ever use anyone else. You can’t host a party without Austin Catering!,” she said.
Stephens has laid down quite a challenge for herself, and she wants to meet and exceed it with your next event.
