**Discover the Art of Fly Fishing: A Hands-On Beginner Class**
Have you ever wanted to try fly fishing but didn’t know where to start? Whether you’re a complete beginner or just curious about the sport, this is your chance to dive in and learn!
Fly fishing has been a lifelong passion of mine, and I’m excited to share it with you. Don’t worry if you’ve never fished before—all I ask is that you come eager to learn and ready for a hands-on experience.
**What is Fly Fishing?**
Think back to the iconic 90s movie *A River Runs Through It.* That’s fly fishing! It’s a method of fishing that uses a lightweight artificial lure—called a fly—to catch fish. Fair warning: it’s an addictive hobby that just might capture your heart.
While you won’t leave this session as a pro, you *will* walk away with a solid foundation of skills, knowledge, and confidence to explore fly fishing on your own.
**What We’ll Cover:**
* **Fly Rod Basics:** Learn about rod construction, line setup, and how it all works together.
* **Macroinvertebrates:** Discover the tiny water creatures that fish love to eat and how to use this knowledge to your advantage.
* **Water Reading:** Walk the creek and learn how to read the water like a seasoned angler.
* **Casting Techniques:** Master the basics of casting until you can confidently “cast to fish.”
* **Fishing Licenses:** Understand the Texas Parks and Wildlife Outdoor Annual app and how fishing licenses work (no license required for this class).
Plus, there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and interact!
**What to Expect:**
I’m a certified Angler Education and Fly Fishing Instructor with Texas Parks and Wildlife. All equipment and handouts will be provided by TPWD, so all you need to bring is yourself and any personal outdoor essentials (e.g., sunscreen, bug spray, sunglasses, water).
This class is capped at 5 participants to ensure personalized instruction for everyone. Fishing won’t be part of this class as we’ll focus on building foundational skills, particularly casting.
**Important Details:**
* **No fishing license required** for this class.
* Outdoor essentials: sunscreen, bug spray, sunglasses, water, etc. (No restroom facilities on site, so plan ahead.)
* Limited availability: Only 5 spots to ensure quality instruction.
* This event is weather and water-level dependent and may be rescheduled if needed.
* Attendance matters: If you’ve no-showed this evet in the past, your RSVP will be removed to give others a chance to attend.
If you have any questions, feel free to comment or send me a direct message. I can’t wait to introduce you to the exciting world of fly fishing!
