Our State Visual Art Standards, or TEKS, include artistic perception, response/evaluation, creative expression, and art history and culture. Grounded in these standards, our district curriculum develops art knowledge and skills. These skills, paired with concepts grounded in the elements of art and the principles of design, teach our young artists to use Visual Storytelling to communicate personal messages, depict emotions, and share narratives and information in a way which can reach viewers at a deep and lasting level. Guided by the eight “studio habits of mind” art teachers take students on a journey through learning to Develop Craft, Engage & Persist, Envision, Express, Observe, Reflect, Stretch & Explore, Understand Art Worlds. In celebration of Youth Art Month, student artists from across the district will have their masterpieces on display at AISD Performing Arts Center, 1500 Barbara Jordan Blvd., Austin TX, 78723
Becoming aware of our capacity to feel is a way of discovering our humanity. Art helps us connect with personal, subjective emotions, and through such a process, it enables us to discover our own interior landscape. Art and Knowledge, Elliot Eisner
The event is free to the public, however an online general admission ticket reservation is required. Tickets will not be sold on a campus or at the event.
